Replacing front door speakers in an 01 Monte and would like to go alittle more on the high-end side. Does anyone know how much mounting depth I have in the front door?

I'm not sure about the mounting depth, but I know they are 6 1/2" speakers, AND there is a tweeter along side, about a 1 1/4 -1 1/2".
I installed Pioneer 4-ways, #TS-A641P, 260 watt speakers. How much power are you pushing?  I would think that any QUALITY speaker in a 6 1/2" GM mount, whether component or not, would be a SERIOUS upgrade over the factory stuff. I prefer the 4-ways myself, unless you are adding extra speakers to your door panels. The Pioneer '06 TS-C160R component speaker is only rated at 250 watts.
Look for the 6 1/2" GM mount door speakers.

I've been considering putting some tweeters in the dash, something low down but that can be done w/o hacking the actual dash.  The rears would allow you a lot more room for a 2/3 way speaker, and still add a LOT to the sound.  I remember my beretta I hacked up the rear trunk panel and stuck in a couple of Pioneer 6x9s.  My aftermarket head unit wasn't anything special, and compared to the stocker speaks it was night and day.  I remember in one song there was the sound of jamming a shell into a shotgun, real high pictched cla-chik sound, I mean I always knew it was there, but man after putting in those speakers I still JUMPED when I heard it the first time.

That's an easy option, simply because in the doors you'll undoubtedly have less room,  and the highs won't be pointed at you, or at ear level, making them less noticable.
