I had the same problem with my 01 SS, the sensor went bad. It is on the passenger side of the radiator, at the top.

yeah, the sensor is on the radiator, on my 01 ss it is on the side of the radiator, down towards the bottom, you have to pull the radiator to replace it... Its a square plastic box(mine is grey) that is about 2"x3". Costs about 35-40$

woah, pull the radiator? its on the passenger side, part way down on the back of the radiator, as i recall i pull out the battery to gain access on the w bodies.
now 'sometimes' i've seen it work to clean the sensor, if your coolant has been low anytime recently at all they can get covered with that mud/gunk/crap that dex-cool turns into and thats why it thinks its low, obviously not the case if you remove it and its clean. other times the sensor/module is just bad so...
if time is worth more than money to ya, i'd just put a new sensor in, if ya have no money and all the time in the world, try cleaning first, but you may end up just replacing it anyway.

You don't have to pull the radiator, just the battery. If you have small hands, you might be able to get it out without pulling the battery.
