Hi Josh & Welcome to the MCF,
Please post pic's of your 06 Monte. Give us a review of your Monte and
what you like or dislike about it.
I have been searching for information on the same question, but have not
been able to locate a comparsion. You will just have to cruise the roads and
find a Sc/SS 3.8 & line them up
. Oh, and then give your report
Did you purchase your SS tips from a Dealer ? Did you weld them on ?
Would love to see pic's...Please
Safe/Happy miles 2 U...`Space

the SS 3.8 only makes about 200hp while the 3.9 makes about 240. The torque figures are 242 ft lbs for the 3.9 and 225 for the ss 3.8. With equal drivers I think the 3.9 takes it.

But the S/C 3.8 also makes 240hp. I think that's what he was asking about. It would be an interesting matchup.

off the line the 3.9 will take the sc, on top end it's the other way around

Hi James, is that from personal experience ? Where did you get
your information ? When you said Top end, did
you mean Top Speed or the end of a 1/4 mile run ?
My friend hooked up a G-Tech device to his Mom's LTZ with a 3.9 &
he claims it did 0-60 in 6.62 sec & 1/4 miles in 14.83 sec @ 93.8 MPH.
I haven't tested mine yet
...have you ? Keep us posted...EnJoy

Sweet numbers. I would like to meet someone that would "G-Tech" my car.

If that's the case then 0-60 times are .01 faster for 3.9. 3.8 sc does 6.7-6.8 0-60 stock.

hey thanks for the warm welcome, my wife's mother is a professinal photographer so i am going to see if i can get her camera to take some pics, well my 2006 monte carlo lt3 is gold with black cloth. 3.9l tint and the tips, i like it it rides good, no wind noise all the digital features compass temp ETC. , dislikes no trunk light or hood light.
The tips were a dealer item at $75.00 A PIECE plus tax they are a bolt on clamp style so no welding required but you do have to have your current stock tips cut off 3 inchs but if you buy them, they do give you very detailed instructions. i took mine to a local muffler shop and he cut the pipes for free i just had to put them on, all you need, after they are cut off is a 15mm deep well socket and a wrench. very easy to do.
i have had many fast car's my latest was a 95 trans am lt1 bored .30 with tons of interal mods and free mods 1800.00 trans mission and about 10 grand in the motor ran constant 12 .1 at 114 on 93 octane, the only then i need to do was lower the gears i had 3.23's and i couldnt get a faster trap speed. killed me.
I took my 06 monte out to the local drag spot, havent been in a couple years, they repaved it so the lines were not there but my trap speed was around 91-93 so the post that space rider claimed is true i look forward to seeing low 15's to high 14's out of the stock form. I was really impressed with the top end of the 3.9 l and would find it difficult for the s/c 3800 to have much more topend if any faster then the 3.9 i was just wondering if anyone has lined them up. I know in some of the rpm range of the 3.9 is doggy so in some spots i must agree that the sc 3.8 would out accelerate it in some spots.
thank you any comments or questions let me know, josh oh yeah do you guys have any stickers for advertising the website or anything like that ?

correct, I misread it.

I think the S/C 3.8 would take it all the way because of the fact it makes 280 lb-ft torque

Wow, man. I paid Walmart less than $20 (for the pair) for my SS style tips and installed them myself.
I had no idea tips even got that expensive!

Well first off your paying for GM accessories, 2nd they are guaranteed by GM to never rust, tarnish, or loose their luster, and 3rd there's something to be said about keeping a car all OEM in my humble opinion. I just ordered my tips today thanks to "2006" pics.

I asked in another post but I'll ask again here. Hey "2006" are your tips the actual ones for an SS or for an LTZ? They are different tips & part #'s so I wanted to ask before I purchased.
In your defense, your welcome. Us new "'06" owners gotta stick together....lol

Yes, we all have to stick together & help each other with our monthly payments
Since we covered the 3.9L Vs the SC3800, how about the speed/power
difference between the New 3.5 L against the Non-SC 3800 ?
Has anyone lined up ? Report please...EnJoy your `journey`Space

i really dont know cain, i went to the dealer and said i wanted the chrome tips like the ones on the ss. i didnt know there was a difference. any way space my friend has a malibu with a 3.5 and that thing is quite impressive, i would say the 3.5 has alot for mid range and top end.

If you check out chevy.com they have a pic of them on there under accessories along with the wheels I want.

well i checked those tips on chevy.com its still hard to tell. those on the ss are a little bit shorter in the depth of the entire tip but it could just be the angle of the picture, the opening of the ss tip in that pic looks just like mine, so i dont know i could have either one, i might swing by a dealer ship and take a close look my pics i posted make my tips look flat but they look just like the tips on the ss pic

Ah...touche`!!
Yes, Space...I have a little report to make.
During my trip to Colorado to see friends the other week, we got a free upgrade to full size because all the intermediate rentals were taken. So, naturally, I grabbed me an '06 Monte Carlo LT. I was very excited to have a test of a new Monte. Well, it wasn't the love affair I expected. First of all, the 3.5 is WEAK in comparison to my 3.8. So I would have to say that the 3.5 would lose miserably to the 3.8...I was very unimpressed.
The gas pedal felt funny too, like it took too much effort to push it. The rear-view mirror is too low on the windshield, it got in my way and obstructed my view of the road. I thought the seat was too high at first, but then I figured out how to lower it (power seat). I also think the center console is too high. I had difficulty getting my big bear mits down there to buckle my seatbelt. Something was screwy with the power steering too. It was almost non-existent when sitting still...made parellel parking very labourious. I chalk that up, though, to it being a mistreated rental.
On the positive side, however, MAN...can that thing handle!!!!! I took it up into a windy mountain road doing 15 over the limit and barely even heard any tire squeel. The seats are pretty comfy too.
Not knocking you 06+ guys, but given the choice, I would stick with my '05 LT. (maybe a run in a new SS would change my mind!!
