So who still has their factory stereo system in? I have a 06 Monte LTZ factory radio(am/fm cd player) with out the amp  in the trunk and i would say that it isnt very loud or clear? have had it replaced and has helped a bit but sounds distorted. I have looked in the forums and havent seen anything on this. I have owned a 95 Monte and the stereo was awsome. So what can i do to make this stereo sound better and louder with out taking the unit out and putting a aftermarket in? or do i not have a choice? Thanks for you help guys!!

I have the 6 cd changer with all the bells and whistles and the 200 watt amp and the stereo system is very weak in my opinion.

I rented an HHR LS that had a stereo that would blow away the one on the LTZ.

I have the same setup as you Solara and mine is not weak by no means.  It's loud, clear the only part I don't like it wish it would beat a little harder with the bass turned all the way up, but that is what my subs are going to be for.  I had an HHR LT for a rental car before I got my Monte and they do have some good sound systems in there, it was better than the LTZ's but my LTZ's sound system sounds pretty good to me.

There is supposed to be a 600 watt upgrade amp.

I'd like to find one through the bone yard circuit.

Yeah a 600 watt upgrade amp would be pretty nice, let me know if you find one

I left the factory radio (6 disk changer) in mine but replaced all 4 speakers and added a 600 watt amp (All Pioneer) and the sound is incredible. Total cost for replacement was right around one grand with instalation and extended warrantee.
