Yep I'm trying to remember where I read that. Maybe Car & Driver? Anyway they are taking it off the production line. They will prob bring it back when they release that V8 RWD Impala in like 2009.

If I could afford it, I'd take a Vette over my Monte any day.

Thank you Mr. Montejass for your post. You really help
the MCF members. We have some super Moderator's.
I thought I read or posted this before about the end of production:
As of September 2006, production on the Monte Carlo has ceased. The Oshawa Car Assembly plants are undergoing a retooling for Zeta platform capability, and it is unknown whether the Monte Carlo will return or not.
Our `Monte will be the last FWD `Monte's

This link post, why does it mention the 2006 Montes as the 7th generation when everyone says this is incorrect?

One thing I know for sure, 95% of those monte carlo's sold went to the united states for sure. In Canada, NOT ONE dealer in the greater toronto area had one. (At least 10 chevy dealers) They had to go into the suburbs to get mine. I asked my dealer WHY there are none to be found and he said "its a very niche car and we dont want to be stuck with it at the end of the year, we maybe sell 1 or 2 a year" so since January 2006, I have seen 2 others. Including mine that makes 3.
Definitely a rare car up here in canada!

I would say there is a seventh gen, new frt end, new drivetrain line up...
The discussions I've seen on the Monte SS site as well as NMCOA is the 2006 Montes are NOT a 7th gen Monte Carlo, but a re-styled 6th gen.
That re-stlying does occur during a generation.
They site the differences of the 4th gen G-bodied Montes where the '86 LS got the euro nose and wrap around taillight, but are not a 5th gen car. (which would make the 5th gens a 6th generation)

I would almost call it a Generation 6.2
It really isn't a new monte. They just changed the engines, spiced up the interior, and made the exterior worse.

LOL.......
My resident expert (my wife) agrees that it is still a sixth gen...

Not that I think the '06 Montes are the best Chevy has ever done. (The 4th gen Montes are my favorite)
But I happen to like the new look over the 2000-2005 look. I'm not fond of the two ribs in the hood the 6th gen Montes got.
There are some very nice 2000-2005 Montes. My girlfriend loves the yellow with the Nascar flag on the side Montes.

ever since i saw the 4th generation monte carlo, i've been in love. i'm an 80's baby... i kinda started to like the 5th generation a little because the exhasut i heard on one i test drove sounded so good, plus it had great options. now my heart belongs to the 6th generation, i just got a 02 ss and i'm sold. i've driven an 06 ls and that shit was so slow! didn't think Chevy was very amusing with that joke..I've seen the 06 SS with the racing stripes and rims and i almost crashed lookin at it! i wanted one, but i wouldn't trade what i have now for anything. and by the way, i think the 06 is 7th generation, since its the 7th different style ive seen. as far as the vette, the 06 is the the hottest vette ever! i'd love one, even a base model. i read in some magazine that the Z06 was supposed to be faster that 2 or 3 porches and that's what i call a serious vette.

yea the new 2006 z06 is the next super car, not only does it blast some porches it out runs the viper, a lot of ferrari's, lambo's and depending on driver the ford gt 550 hp , it blast the new shelby gt 500, car and driver compaired the gt 500 vs the base vette, and the vette still won the quarter mile lol the new z06 is the king among men, and for the price its the best supercar you can buy.
oh yea dont knock the 06 montes intill you drive the 3.9 in the lt3 and ltz the 3.5 in the ls doesnt compare to the 3.9 :)

I had a dealer begging me to buy a used '06 LS with 4,000 miles on it. They couldn't decide what APR they were putting the loan under or who the loan was even with? Like I'm going to buy a car under these circumstances.
They've called me once a week begging me to come back and buy the car. Even up till last week. I had to tell the salesman I had just bought an '06 LTZ for the same money they wanted to sell their LS to me for. Their LS was nice and all, it just didn't compare to the 3LT or SS I'd test driven at another dealer. I knew if I bought the V8 SS I'd be getting speeding tickets.
Or my girlfriend would.
I noticed a huge improvement from the 3.5 to 3.9 engines. And the power the V8 SSs have are unbelieveable.

Yeap, I'm starting to think that including the new suspension, wheelbase, aluminium engine frame, we are really close to a new generation car. Of course, a perfected 6th generation car would be just as acceptable to me.
When I first bought it, I wasn't impressed with the new front end. Now after meeting other Monte owners at car washes and gas stations, I've gotten many compliments on the new styling. My friend with an Intimidator said that he wished he had my front Grill on his car.
The only negative thing I've heard is a guy tell me he didn't like the way the XM/Onstar antenna upset the lines of the car. Other than that, the compliments continue.
BTW, the "corvette" exhaust have most people thinking that the LTZ has a V-8 in it and it seems like every SUV and Ricer wants to race me. Maybe its just my imagination.
