Hmmm...interesting.
Could be a rare model like the '86 Aerocoupe, who knows? We'll just have to wait and see.

I followed the Aerocoupe registry. I've never seen or heard of one til now. I'd love to have one Noticed that most are registered in Nascar's backyard. I wonder if Leno has one.

Looks like the Monte is on it's way out the door.
Wonder why they ditched the 3.9L....

The consumers determine the life and death of a product. If they like it - more likely it will have a good sales life - but if they love it, a bestseller is born. Meanwhile, unpopular products end up in incinerators. With this line of argument, it is also the consumer that determines the development of an industry or it's end
.
"All good things come to an end ?". Is there any changes to the 07 Monte Carlo ?
Do you think 07 will be the last year for Monte Carlo's ?

There are many rumors out there regarding the fate of the Monte, unfortunately most of them predict that GM will kill the line and bring it back several years later on a different platform, possibly the ZETA if it's still around.
GM’s past behavior has shown that this is a very good possibility….

Considering how fugly the Malibu is, I wonder if GM will ever consider bringing back the Chevelle....My Monte reminds me much of my 67 Sweetheart that I miss so dearly.

Unfortunatly the Monte Carlo will be history in 2008. GM thinks that the new Camaro can replace our cars. LOL. I know my 05 Mustang has a very small back seat - lets see how many people they can fit in the back of the new Camaro. So large size coupes for GM will be history. And as far as i'm conserned the future with GM and me will be history. GM does plan on making a large platform car in 2010 that maybe will be RWD but they will discontinue the Impala name. They will continue to make a larger Malabu in 08. But, every new car platform for GM is either Opel from Europe, Holden from Austraila, or Daewoo from Korea. There will be no more "American made" GM cars anymore (except for the Corvette and new Camaro). I am so pissed with GM right now - I think I am going to Mopar!

Now why would they spend all this time and money revamping the Monte to fit the 5.3L Smallblock if they are just going to stop making it all together? That really would piss me off. But then again , if you look at what happened last time they stopped making the Carlo.....People wanted it back so they made it again. Shit. I don't know.

Better to go Mopar than Fix Or Repair Daily!!
Just don't get anything with 6 cylinders from them. They suck.

Yea solara killer I think we do own classics in a sense. We have the first model year change, the first and only ones to have the LTZ, 3.9, fog lights, and dual exhaust options. They should hold their value well I'd think but with cars you never know.

And my favorites features are the remote starter, heated leather seats and sun/moon roof combo. (I'm not crazy about the On-Star or XM.) I really, really enjoy the lit buttons on the doors and steering wheel even though the shifter could use some indicators. All for under $20k.

WOW!!!! You paid under 20K?

Makes me feel like a fool paying over 30K for my MC SS.

I agree solara about the features. I really don't use the remote start a lot but I will in the winter when I leave work. At home she stays in the garage all the time. I've had a 98 Grand Prix GTP, 2000 Monte Carlo LS and a 99 Regal GS supercharged and by far the '06 is outstanding. It just feels even more solid and tight. I love the standard 17" wheels too! Although I've already purchased the forged, polished aluminum ones from GM accessories for it.

I love my '06 Monte but I just became part owners of a 1917 Ford Model T that will sit next to my Monte in my garage. I am picking up the Model in one week.

As of September 2006, production on the Monte Carlo has ceased. The Oshawa plants are undergoing a retooling for Zeta-platform capability, and it is unknown whether the Monte Carlo will return or not.? ? ? ? ?
There is some debate as to whether the changes between 2005 and 2006 warrant a new generation designation. Many of the same exterior body panels and glass are retained. The exterior changes are very similar to the changes between a 1986 Sport Coupe and a 1986 Luxury Sport (front fascia, front fenders, rear bumper cover). The interior for 2006, however, is redesigned, and features a "substantially revamped ****pit-style instrument panel with a new instrument layout and control center stack." (Autoworld.com's reposting of GM press release material) Additionally, the seats and console are revised. However with the completely new engine options for 2006 comes change in some key chassis components such as control arms that cause the track and wheel-base to be slightly larger. GM has yet to specify if the 2006 model year is the beginning of a true seventh generation, or if it is just a "refreshening" of the sixth generation. Similar "refreshenings" were performed to the 1997 to 2003 Pontiac Grand Prix and were considered the same generation.
What do you think ?

Space, how about Generation 6R (Refreshed, Revised, Renewed, Reworked, Retooled)?
It seems to me that as long as the ISS problems exists, which it does my mine, GM has no basis to call this a 7th generation because it is not even close to being a perfected 6th generation with all that thumping that is coming from my steering column.

Grandpa Dave
, What type of thumping from your steering column ? What does your dealer say ? What problems are you having with your ISS ? I just traded my 05 LT for a 06 LT w/the 3.9 & love it. Please post when & if you find the problems :
. Sure hope it's not a major problem.
From my internet search it looks like the 2007 maybe the last for this model ? It looks like the future Monte's will be rear wheel drive
around 2009-2010 ? After the new Camero, but who really knows with the way things are going with GM & our world ? I also read in Auto News that there is a rumor of a Merger between Ford & GM...Maybe they are on drugs ?
or just trying to save the American Auto Makers ?
I hope that your Monte problems get resolved
. Until then, enjoy your new edition to the family and keep your Monte nice 4 her.

There are plans to move the Monte Carlo back to rear-wheel drive as early as 2008, on a new platform GM is building for premium Chevrolets and Pontiacs, most notably the 2009 Pontiac GTO. The 2006 restyle was only a temporary fix until the final plans are made, since changes are likely to be made due to GM's current financial state and rumored plans to revive the Camaro due to popular demand. There is also a possibility that the current Monte Carlo will be the last, due to GM's poor finances and limited demand for two-door cars, especially large ones. A revived Camaro and the Cobalt coupe could probably fulfill the remaining market for Chevrolet coupes between them.

Space,
First of all, I get the funny thumping noise and vibration feedback at my steering wheel when ever I brake and turn or reverse and turn at low speeds. From all the posts here, I can only deduce that the problem is the ISS. I will take it in to the dealer soon for a check up.
Secondly, big news this morning over seas about a GM Nissan consolidation. Don't know what it is but I'm going to look it up over the net this week.
Keep the rubberside down
