Really happy to see Jimmy win again. I fell asleep around 11:30 so didnt see the end of the race. Was glad to see at least Gordon get involved in a wreck, shame Tony and Jr were not involved also.

Sports Commentary
NASCAR is holding a two-front war, using two different kinds of cars and two means of determining the standings, one of which has now been rendered virtually meaningless.
Jeff Gross, Getty Images
Jeff Gordon has a big lead in points toward determining the 12-driver field for the Chase for the Nextel Cup, but trails Jimmie Johnson by one in wins -- the key in ranking drivers. 1 of 4 That's the forecast for the Chase for the Nextel Cup, scheduled to begin its 10-race run on Sept. 16 in Loudon, N.H. Get The Weather Channel on the line. This might as well be a hurricane, churning relentlessly through the Caribbean.
The season-long favorite, Jeff Gordon, has won four championships in the past, all when the system was sane. After three straight finishes worse than 18th, Gordon still leads by an insane 317 points over Tony Stewart. Well, not necessarily insane. More like irrelevant.
Those points mean nothing except that their ranking determines which 12 drivers make the Chase. Dale Earnhardt, 13th in spite of a fifth-place California Speedway finish on Sunday night, has about as much chance to make up the 128 points that separate him from Kevin Harvick and 12th place as a tsunami has of swamping Dallas.
Jimmie Johnson's California victory was his fifth, and that's one more than Gordon. That means Johnson, who trails Gordon by 430 points in the standings, will begin the Chase -- where the contestants are ranked on the basis of wins, not points -- with at least 5,050 points. Gordon will have to win the final regular-season race, at Richmond on Saturday night, to match Johnson's 5,050.
Four hundred thirty points down the drain.
Gordon is slumping, not at the worst time but at a bad one. He has two weeks to regain his form. These final races before the Chase don't mean much. Only the victories matter, but Johnson's latest victory has to be disquieting to Gordon. The dominant driver of the season, at least in terms of consistency, is no longer the leader, as a practical matter, because points are no longer relevant.
"We'd like to be running better and be out there, getting bonus points, but this team is going to come with a whole different focus and attitude when we get to New Hampshire," Gordon said. "I'll be honest. It's kind of hard to be in this position, because you're in a position where it really doesn't matter; and yet you're a competitor. ... But you know, in the back of your mind, that it really doesn't mean anything. I'm a little disappointed in some of the things we've had happen to us, but at the same time, I'd rather have them happen to us now than in those final 10 races."

Gordon to make 500th straight start

Jeff Gordon is already a 4 time Cup Champion, has 79 career wins, 4 of them this season, and on Sunday's he'll reach another incredible milestone in his career. Jeff will make his 500th consecutive start, the longest active streak on the circuit. Gordon's first race was the 1992 season ender in Atlanta, and he hasn't missed a race since.
Jeff Gordon starts the 2007 Chase as the number two seed and is widely considered one of the championship favorites. The four-time series champion is seeking to become the third driver in series history with five championships (Richard Petty and Dale Earnhardt each have seven).
• Gordon had led the point standings since the first race at Bristol Motor Speedway on March 25. He took the lead by three points over Jeff Burton (No. 31 AT&T Mobility Chevrolet) after finishing third. He led for 22 weeks until the points were reset and he was seeded second.
• Sunday’s race at New Hampshire will be Gordon’s 500th career start – and 500th consecutive start. He made his series debut in the 1992 finale at Atlanta Motor Speedway (the last race of Richard Petty’s career) and has not missed a start since.

Dover's Monster Mile Lest you think NASCAR is going to make the championship easy to win, Chase contenders have to slay a monster before claiming the prize. The Chase for the Nextel Cup encompasses every type of track that drivers face during the regular season. To win the ultimate prize, drivers have to master short tracks, similarly-configured, 1.5-mile courses, flat tracks, high banks and one superspeedway. In fact, they have to reach into their bag of skills and change driving styles on a weekly basis. With the exception of the two "cookie-cutter" races at Atlanta Motor Speedway and Texas Motor Speedway run in back-to-back weeks, no two tracks are alike in consecutive contests. New Hampshire International Speedway and Dover International Speedway are both measured at about one mile in length, but the Delaware track boasts twice as much banking and that makes it a different animal altogether. This track is challenging when nothing but pride is on the line, and with championship points added into the mix, butterflies abound. The White Cliffs of Dover The concrete and high banks of Dover make this a unique track. It takes drivers a lap or two to get cranked up to full speed like a cyclist on a velodrome, but once they do the laps click off at about 24 seconds. By comparison, on last week's one-mile course in New Hampshire they had six more seconds per lap to make a decision and at the flat Phoenix International Raceway drivers have three more seconds. That little extra time often makes all the difference in the world. Steep banking makes this a self-cleaning track on which crash victims slide to the bottom of the course, but the groove is narrow and it takes a few moments to complete their spin. Track blocking accidents are a fact of life at Dover, and drivers caught behind the roadblock can have their day ruined very quickly.
Space Pick's for Dover 1. Matt Kenseth 2. Carl Edwards 3. Jeff Gordon 4. Kevin Harvick 5. Denny Hamlin

I hate to say it Wiz, but I can't see Gordon winning any more races.
Either all the other teams have caught up to him technologically....
....or he hast lost his edge...
...or they've pulled the 'special' tires from him.....
I really want Jeff to bring back the crown.
