2008 Motor Trend Car of the Year Winner: Cadillac CTS
...One Giant Leap: Cadillac aims for the stars. And builds one.

News flash to automakers in Japan and Germany: The eagle has landed. Again.

If you were one of those who wrote off General Motors as a dying dinosaur -- after all, it's been a decade since any GM car took home the Golden Calipers (the Chevrolet Corvette won back in 1998) -- prepare to rewrite everything you think you know about what's in the General's store. With this bold, savvy, uncompromising showpiece of a sedan -- the all-new Cadillac CTS -- GM has leapt straight from the rabble's side of the velvet rope into that coveted, highly selective inner sanctum marked "World's Finest Cars." For that remarkable achievement, and for making us grin like lottery winners every time we drove it, the CTS is our enthusiastic choice for Motor Trend's 2008 Car of the Year.

Nice, I like it. That's quite abit of power for a V6 also. My only problem with Cadillac's, is that they all look alike, Every Caddy looks like the next, It's a nice style they use, but why can't they change the look for different models (other then just slight changes)

Lesley, 07MonteSS, I agree that I would love to have a 09 CTS-v like below : )
and to me the top 1000 cars of 08 are unreachable for me : )
`Mod Taz, I would love to see a 2door CTS : )
I'm just happy that GM is working on designs & power
that are competitive in their field.
To me it's just a dream car, but dreaming is `free.
But WoW, a Z0-6 Powered Caddy : )
Good Job GM

2009 CTS-v gets 600-horse supercharged V-8

Blown! Next CTS-v gets 600-horse supercharged V-8

UPDATE: Our sources have just confirmed that the supercharged V-8 that will power the 2009 Corvette SS/Z07/Blue Devil and the supercharged V-8 that will power the '09 Cadillac CTS-v will be 6.2 liters, not the 7.0-liter as we reported in our July issue. It makes sense in that General Motors was getting the horsepower, but not the torque it wanted from the 427.6 cubic-inch engine. Despite the engine difference, we continue to expect the CTS-v to come with some 600-horsepower when it arrives.
What's good for the Blue Devil is good for the Cadillac CTS-v. The next-generation muscle-Caddy, which is expected in the 2009 model year along with the quicker-than-Z06 Chevrolet Corvette, also will get the supercharged LS7 7.0-liter powerplant. While the Blue Devil, which will be named Z07, will have about 700-horsepower ("Trend," June), expect the engine to be detuned somewhat for the CTS-v to about 600 horses.

That's still well above the competition's numbers. The BMW M3 and Audi RS4 come in at 420 horsepower, and the Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG looks to be about 503 horsepower, same as the CLK63 AMG Black Series that made its debut at the New York show.
On paper, the Z06's 505-horsepower, 7.0-liter has enough grunt to give the CTS-v the edge over its European rivals. But the naturally aspirated Z06 engine is said to lack enough low-end torque for a car of the Cadillac's we

No disguise: 2009 Cadillac CTS-V uncovered
December11

Late last week, spy photographers snapped the first photos of the 2009 Cadillac CTS-V without any disguise on the Thunderhill Raceway in Willows, California. We've since received 16 new images of the car undergoing some kind of official photo shoot by GM.

Despite rumors to the contrary, the CTS-V is not powered by the LS7 motor from the Corvette Z06. As reported countless times by Leftlane and other reputable sources, the super sedan is propelled by GM's new LSA motor, delivering 525 or 550 horsepower. The LSA is a 6.2L, smallblock V8 with a supercharger. The LSA has an intercooler integrated into the intake manifold.
The other popular rumor involves an all-wheel-drive setup. While the regular CTS has optional AWD, the CTS-V will be strictly rear-wheel-drive, sources say.
Spy photos show that the CTS-V will feature Michelin Pilot Sport 2 tires. While it wasn't clear what size the front tires are, the rear tires will be 285 series on 19 inch wheels. The '09 will continue to utilize a massive set of Brembo brakes up front and in back.
Recent comments from GM at the SEMA show indicate that Recaro seats may show up inside the CTS-V.
GM's Bob Lutz was recently quoted saying the 2009 CTS-V "will be at a power level only described as unexpectedly high." Then referencing the current BMW M5, Lutz said the CTS-V “will suck the doors off” the competition if the next M5 isn't significantly better.
After driving a prototype, Lutz said "flat-out incredible. I’ve never driven anything like that.”
In the past, the current CTS-V has suffered from "wheel hop" problems. The 2009 CTS-V will feature a completely re-done rear end with a much better rear axle. Sources say this has eliminated the wheel hop issue altogether.
Production on the new CTS V-Series will start in September of 2008, and will be limited to about 7000 units annually. Internally, GM is referring to the car as "GMX322 V S/C."
