Gas has jumped up to $2.80 a gallon according to the most recent figures. So how high will it go this summer? A new government forecast says the monthly average for regular gas will peak at $2.87 in May. As for the entire summer season, the forecast calls for an average of $2.81 a gallon. What do you think of the outlook and the recent rise in prices?

Gas Prices Expected to Peak at $2.87 in May
By Barbara Hagenbaugh
USA Today

WASHINGTON (April 11) -- Gasoline prices will peak in May and will be a bit lower during the summer than last year, the government predicted Tuesday.

In recent weeks, gas consumption has gone up, not down, and drivers are changing their daily driving habits only slightly.

But a number of analysts, including those at Wachovia and Alaron Trading, questioned the forecast, arguing that prices were likely headed higher than the government predicts.

we're paying about a buck a litre for gas right now..some places 1.09 a litre...which is 4.36 a gallon...and its only supposed to go up...supposed to be 1.50-1.75 a litre this summer...so 6-7 bucks a gallon ...thats rediculous...i dont understand why it has to be so high...well i have my ideas..but i'll cover that in another thread

I call shenanagins.  I'm betting regular will hit $3.15 in the summer conservatively and really I wouldn't be suprised if it hit 3.25.  Either way I need premium but I think it will only be 14 cents over regular.

I wish I paid what you all are paying for gas. Cheap stuff around here is $3.22 or around there. I feel for wizz, but the rest of you have it pretty good.

Steve

PS
The fuel price protection card I got with the MC last summer is going to be really paying off if the state average keeps going up, I get more money on my card! Yay!

The price at my local gas station is at $2.77 right now, I can see it going to at least $3.10 before summer is out. I am guessing it will peak out around memorial day weekend.

Actually you can in alot of states... just maybe not in your municipality.  :(

In WI you need a $50 state license and the ability to be allowed to have an open flame/firepit in your yard.

BTW - some city and village ordinances say you can't have a firepit in your back yard for entertainment, you can only cook with them.  One of my friends found away around this.  They put  a hotdog on a stick and let the sucker cook for 3 hours.  :)

Watch Out: Here Comes $4 Gasoline

CNNMoney NEW YORK (April 26) -- Gasoline prices, already above $3 a gallon in some states, could charge higher this summer and hit $4 a gallon in some locations, according to one industry expert.

While geopolitical tensions have driven up the cost of crude oil, which accounts for about half the cost of a gallon of gas, refinery problems here in the United States are largely to blame for the price jump. Pump prices were supposed to peak below $3 a gallon this May, then drop off before the summer driving season got into full swing, according to the Energy Department's price forecast.

Well, we're not even out of April yet, and the nationwide average price for a gallon of unleaded regular has hit $2.87.

One big factor driving prices: gasoline inventories continue to fall. After a promising one-week boost in refining activity, the latest report Wednesday actually shows refining activity falling. And demand is already soaring, before the summer driving season is in full swing.

Toyota Reportedly To Build a new Smart-Fighting city car
Toyota reportedly will put a Smart-fighting "city car" into production in 2008. The automaker will unveil the car in concept form at the Frankfurt auto show in September, Car magazine is reporting.

Toyota had previously shown a city car at Frankfurt. The Endo concept was unveiled at the Frankfurt show in 2005. The Japanese automaker also has a minicar currently on the market, the Aygo. The new model reportedly will be even smaller — at about 118 inches long versus the Aygo's 134 inches — and will be considered a "3+1" that would seat two adults in front, one in back and have room for a child in the rear-seat position behind the driver seat.

Media are projecting sales of the new little car to start in the summer of 2008.
