I'm honoring the Don't Buy Gas on the 15th of May
, because I don't have the I did!!! I heard on the radio yesterday that if we all save one gallon of gas (say in the month of june) it would force the price of gas down in the U.S.
I personally find this statement BS. Due to the times they RAISED the price/gal when they said demand was down.

Space - according to some other researchers, moms paid more for SUVs to haul their kids to school, the grocery store and to go offroading through the parking lot of Starbucks.
In related news some moms discovered that their Saturn Ion can do the same thing.

I just filled my tank today and the station owner said " Better fill it now.Next week it is going to $4.00" His prices today were $3.02 for 87 octane,$3.12 for 89,and $3.22 for the 93.He said he just talked to "them" (I guess meaning Exxon corporate guys) and that is what they said.
By the way, this was in Allentown,PA.

a road trip around North America. I wish I had stock in EXxon : )

Can you imagine what it will cost for the family to drive to their cottage in the big honkin' SUV, bomb around in the boat, and Seadoo for the weekend, and then drive home. And expect to do this every weekend??? WTF how much money do people make to be able to afford this.

Nope.
Cause we let them.
We as the consumer have the real power. But the sheep mentality keeps us from flexing our "buying power" muscle.

If people would actually organize and pick on say, one particular gas company per week. This would really hit them hard. Instead of everyone doing a general one day Gas-out. People just buy their gas before hand and the oil companies still make the same over the week. But if you say avoid one particular brand for a week, the flux in the market would even out among the other companies, and would hurt big oil that much more.
The sad thing is that the EPA hides behind the false pretense of protecting the environment, when it's their regulations that keep companies from building new refineries, which means less capacity, especially when one (like the main one that feeds the Midwest market) has an explosion. That's why Premium is 3.49 here, Mid grade with ethanol is 3.35, where it's cheaper almost anywhere else. 3/4 of a tank last weekend was 45$ and still had to put some more in yesterday to make it to the end of the week. But I should buy some more now, because it'll probably go up over the holiday weekend, you know, there'll be some other excuse for raising it 20 more cents. Where New Jersey (read; highest concentration of big oil execs) hasn't broken the 3$ per gallon mark yet.
Some markets in the mid west are limited to 85% of the supply we had last year, even though consumption is up by 2% or so.
The supply and demand stuff is bullcrud, sure you look at the numbers and the facts and it makes sense at first, until you realize that something always seems to happen to the supply end of it just when demand peaks. Oh, there was a tropical storm (not talking about a hurricane, a much less intense storm), oh the alaska lines need repair, oh there was an explosion, oh the government stopped releasing our reserves. OH WTF IS NEXT.......?

The Bad thing is this would not work either.
Heres a link to where it explains why it wont work.
http://www.snopes.com/politics/gasoline/gasout.asp scroll all the way down towards bottom of the page and it explains how the oil compaines sell their gas to other oil companys.

We as the public need to start raising hell with our elected leaders. Inform them that we elected them and unless they (our leaders) start doing something to stop the billions of dollars in profit big oil is making, then we will elect someone who will do something. I would not mind 3.00 a gallon if it cost 2.30 or so to make and the oil companies were making profit in the millions. It is when they report billions of dollars in profit that makes me angry

One more time folks!
Stop traveling for one year!
This is the ONLY way to protest high prices!
The oil companies make their BANK on seasonal travelers.

I don't think our present elected officials are going to do anything, because the Big Oil
companies are the ones that BANK/Fund their Election Campaigns : (
They have just become puppets. Whose pulling the strings ?

Are you proposing that Govt take over the Oil Companies? Trust me you do not want that.
Just how much profit would you think is the correct amount? Right now they only make about ten cents a gallon of gas, Yes when you add up all the gallons of gas sold that amounts to Billions. So how much profit should they be allowed to Make?
I guarantee that other companies have a much higher profit on each item sold.
Should we also limit places like wal mart on how much profit they can make?
Mike.
