Guess What Happened To Me.
First let me say, I've wanted this for some time.
This is what the car looked like before.
This is what I did this morning with the help of some people at a graphix shop. Anyone like it? Yes? No? Maybe not?

Like it!!! Wow, really looks good in my eyes. Really makes the LTZ pop. The black stripes really accent the grey color, without overkill. I like it a lot.

Curious thought did you get the roof striped?

That looks beautiful, how much did it end up costing you? I'm still looking to get mine done sometime, I just finished my last model for my studio class today after only eight hours for both versions. I plan on using my free time this weekend to wire in my subs if I ever figure out how to do it, and hopefully start looking around for vinyl again.

Those are the same stripes I have, only mine are metallic silver on white.

And yes NIX they go over the top in his pics...you can see them in the first one.
Yeah the stripes go over the roof.
I bought the kit from Auto Trim Designs. Their ebay auction. With shipping I paid $136.
They say it takes them at least 1 week to do the kit once they get the order. But my stripe kit came in the mail within 1 week after winning the auction for them. So that's one in their favor.
One thing I am not happy with.
The spacing of the stripes.
Both the lady that works at the graphix company and I read the instructions from the Auto Trim Designs web site that says a 4 inch spacing from the center of the car. So that's how the stripes were laid on. But closer inspection of the instructions they read a 4 inch spaces between the stripes meaning 2 inches from the center of the car.
Nothing I can do now but live with it. And it makes my car different from other Monte with the rally stripes I guess.
The graphix place charged me $50 to install the stripes. A call around my area most places wanted $100 - $150 to install the kit. A little too high for me. A couple places said they wouldn't touch the kit. So it was easy who to choose. GMT Graphix assured me if they screwed up any of the stripes installing them, they would supply a replacement at no cost. They did a great job.

RJ,
Looking good, I like the stripes!!! Once you put them on, can you ever take them off?

mad717... Oh yes, most definitely. It won't be the easiest job, especially the longer they're on the car, and you do run a slight risk of fade lines, (allthough today's paint is fairly stable, and it's unlikely to fade) but yes, 99/100 times you can remove the vinyl with little problems aside from those mentioned earlier, and a "bead" so to speak of wax buildup on the sides of the vinyl (depending on the wax, wash, and detailer of course)
I plan on doing a custom kit for my car. I have a friend with a vinyl cutter, and am working on some designs. Specially since the best 9-year stable vinyl is only 50$ for 30 feet at 24" wide (more than enough)
Mine will likely be similar to the GM kit, only sharper points and I'm considering two colors. The main larger portion will un doubtedly be Flat (read: unreflective, not glossy) black and possibly some metallic/laser blue pin striping.
Craig,
We all owe you one.
Mad717,
Like Mike described, yes you can peel the stripes off. The graphox company said to heat them and they "should" pull off in a single piece. And Mike was 100% on about the longer you leave them the harder to remove them. I'm sure there's a point to where the "Harder to get them off" won't go beyond that point.
Auto Trim Designs offers the stripes in more then one color. I choose black cause I thought well if I ever do get to the position where I need to sell the car any potential buyer will tell me, "Well if the stripes were black I'd buy the car. But since they aren't black..........no deal."
I personally wanted a lighter silver stripe then the Silverstone paint on the car. But trying to match up a color that I thought might work from a color posted on the net well, I figured going with black was a better choice.
The stripes are not a real gloss black either. The graphix company showed me the gloss black vinyl they have. It was a lot shinnier then the stripes which are kind of a matte. Maybe it has something to do with glare? But how can that be any different then glare you get off a detailed car in the sun?

DEFINATELY AN AAA+++ Super mod!
Thanks RocknSS04 (Wayne).
I asked the guys on Monte Carlo City what they thought of my car since the stripes were added?
One member commented the stripes looked kind of wide, but I wasn't trying for an SS clone so it made my car look different.
I like that description. I think I'll leave the stripes as they are.

Hey RJ, I just noticed something I wanted to ask you.
The tips you have on, did you install them yourself, or did the car come with them?
I'm asking because they don't stick way out. Like just the stock tailpipe sticks out probably an inch or two on my car, if I was to add tips, without cutting off pipe, they'd stick waaay out there. Yours flush up with the bumper nicely.

I
'm with you RJ. I had no idea about the placement until you mentioned the dimensions. I'm also with Godbot about stripes for the Amber Bronze LTZ. I wonder how they would go with my black interior, black pinstripes, black bra, etc. I kind of think it would look okay. I first thought it wouldn't, but I could picture it now.
