hail damage

Anyone have any opinions about the best way to remedy hail damage? Is paintless dent repair the way to go? I've heard of the do-it-yourself methods with hairdryers and dry ice and what not, but I'm skeptical of that.

Depends on how bad the hail damage is.  How deep are the dents?  How many of them are there?  And so on.  I worked briefly at an autobody repair shop.  Hail damage can be a real pain in the ass to fix.  If it's bad enough, a lot of people replace the hood and trunk lid, then just worry about fixing the roof and any damage to the sides.
 
If the dents are shallow enough, I've seen people just fill them in with bondo and repaint.  But I'm not a big fan of that idea.  It's the easy way out, and you get what you pay for.
 
Post some pics if possible, and we can throw out some better ideas for ya.

I've also seen some very talanted individuals use a block wrapped in a shami or something and tap them out with a special flat head hammer.
 
It is tons of work and the average amature will still show the bumps but the look much better than the dents.

insurance won't cover it? or are ya not willing to pay the deductable. i'd get a bodyshop quote before going anywhere else IMO

I'd go with the PDR over a paint job of any kind!   I hope your insurance is covering it cause either way isn't cheap.  Ask around and find the best PDR guy not some halfazz.  Every town has that one guy that is exceptional at it and most dealerships/bodyshops know his name and number by heart.

I can't get any pictures up until maybe next week. But there's around 14 dents in the trunk, 3-4 more on the roof, and 8-10 on the hood. Of all the dents there's really only one on the trunk that's particularly noticeable. The rest are pretty light. Of course it helps having the white car. The ones on the roof are fairly noticeable as well; I suppose since its closer to eye level. And there's a spot on the truck where there's 4 or 5 dents really close together that sticks out a little more. For the most part though you have too look for them, or the right light has to him them in order to see them.

sorry to hear bout your insurance being liability only.  all of those dents sound easily PDR-able.  may cost quite a bit but it will still be half or less of what a repair and paint would cost.
