Hate. Dislike........

Why does this site hate 5th generations so bad?  Because it looks like the lumina?  What is it because they're not as fast, which some are as fast as 6th generations or faster..  I would like to know..

Umm...  Where did that come from?  I might have a blind eye to it as I own a 6th gen, but I don't recall offhand anyone going off that 5th Gens suck or anything.
 
I like them... I just like mine more.

Ahh!!!  That explains it.  Yeah, I have to agree with it though.
 
The 70's had the muscle car thing going on.
The 80's had a kickass body style and engine package....  Love the Black SS with red trim.
The 6th Gen had the Nascar look.
The 7th Gen...  Well I'm not big on that, but they have the V8 and do have a solid look.
 
The 5th Gen just didn't seem to have the exterior look for me and the engines were Meh compared to earlier years and later years.
 
BUT!!!!  I don't hate them.

Same thing could be said about the 80's Mustangs that looked like Escort GT's.  That was one of the dumbest things Ford ever did.  =P

i agree with you on some points but being a 5th gen owner i can say it with full knowledge. just like the 7th gens it had NO personality at all just a 2 door version of another model, the 3100 espically was a pathetic excuse for a engine, tho the DOHC 3.4 wasnt that bad but compared to b4 and after it sucks too. tho ive put untold thousands into my car it needs more, i swear chevy put the ls models together with bubblegum and shoestrings. even the simple things like the carpet that goes under the dash to hide stuff is pathetic cant keep it in place no matter what i try. so i rebuild and it works fine. tho my expirence is only with the ls models i can say by just what ive had to deal with with this car i have to agree chevy didnt even try

I always assoiciated the 90's model of the Monte Carlo to the Barretta I didn't like either body style and never looked twice at one.

I don't believe we hate your car.  I don't know where you get that... but this forum likes the 5th generations.  We never hate on any Monte Carlo's here.

my dad has a 87 monte and a 98 monte and the 98 monte just doenst look sporty at all.

This is the second post from the same guy WHINING about the Gen V montes. Grow up. You had a choice, and you chose a vehicle that was in the transitional period between the late 20th century, into the 21st. If you notice, NOTHING looks good coming from the 90's. Even the Ford Fox bodies look ugly as shit, even though they run really fast...

So please, stop your whining, and post your "hate mail" elsewhere.

i can see where ant's coming from and i can see the hate he's generated by posting some of these things. i only pose 1 question, why does the 5th gen get so much hate for being a 2 door lumina but the 7th gen is loved to death when in all reality its a 2 door impala?

I see where you are coming from scc24540.  Personaly there is just something about the 5th gen. that I've never been a fan of, but do I hate it no.  Yes the 7th gen. Monte is pretty much a 2 door Impala but the only thing shared from look wise is the headlights,  everything else is different and the Monte looks so much better.  And when you look at a 5th gen, 6th-7th gen. sitting togather the 6th-7th gen. look better IMO

I think it's too "round", yeah, that's the word I use for it - round. It doesn't have the classic Monte lines to it. I don't "hate" it and a lot of people must like them because there are quite a few here. I just prefer the 4th or 6th gen, and I think they ALL need a spoiler of some type and tinted windows.

That's what I've alway said. The 90's just seemed to be hell on cars and most all looked like each other without any character.

Actually I think the hood is the same, and the top grille is. The door handles are even the same along with the engines and wheels, other than that I don't think there is anything else...

the 5th gen is basically indentical to the Lumina.... front lights, back lights, everything...

the 06-07's are basically impalas but the new impalas look good.. the Luminas didnt

Could be said about the 80's as well for the most part.  But the 5th gen also had a basic color scheme and no original colors.  I don't remember a plum purple or race yellow or anything like that.  Just:  Black, White, Green, Silver and Red.
 
 
As for the conversation that they looked similar, alot of cars just do.  Take a quick glance at the back of many of the 80's / 90's cars and they are pretty similar.
 
Could you tell from a split second glance the difference between at:  Dodge Dynasty, Chevy Corsica, Pontiac 6000, and whatever the Chrysler and Plymoth sedan were. 
 
They all had that stupid square box trunk and quick drop window.

btw i didnt buy the car for speed i dont care how fast it goes... it's what i'm going to do to it.. rims windows exhaust system. holal at me

Even if the 5th gens are a two door version of the Lumina, or the 7th gens are a 2 door version of the Impala.  Who cares?!?  They're still great cars.
 
The idea of one model being a modified version of another model is nothing new.  The original Pontiac GTO was a modified Pontiac Tempest.  The list of examples can go on for days.  Evaluate the car for itself.
 
As far as why people hate the 90's Monte Carlo, or 90's anything for that matter, is just a matter of taste and what's in-style or out-of-style.  Things from the previous decade tend to go out of style for a number of years, then come back into style.  This is common in a lot of things including music, fashion, and cars. 
 
Right now, most people consider the 90's cars to be "out of style".  The 2000-2007 Montes will begin to be considered "dated" or out of style very soon, if they haven't been already.  I'm guessing the 90's styling will make a return to the mass public in a few years, as "retro 90's".
 
Case in point, who would have thought 10-15 years ago, that a large number of cars today would have the aerodynamics of a refridgerator box.  But look at the popularity of the Dodge Charger and Magnum for example. 

why all this bull and it's just a car that gets yuou from point a to point b.. i mean wow.. people b thinkin cars r godly. umm no

98monte... i don't know whats gotten into you, but i hope you get over it soon man... nobody here has ever said they hated or really disliked the 5th generation Monte's.  If I'm wrong, please point me to the post where the statemnet was made.  People here generally love all Monte Carlo's.  And now you've gone towards the "unforgivable sin" in cars...

A car isn't necessarily "Godly", but we respect and take care of our cars.  Our cars make a statement about oursleves.  They show that we take care of the things that belong to us, and if you're driving a Monte Carlo, it states that you won't a fine, luxurious, and somewhat fast automobile :)
 
Sorry to have to call you out man... but I haven't seen anybody on this forum hating on 5th generation Monte's who didn't eventauly end up banned.

u anit callin me out.. a car is a car i drive a monte, wow... i'm cool.  um no come at me right man.. yes i do take car of my car because it's mine and no one elses. why dont you guys change the black monte on the top of the page to a 5th or 4th generation?  i mean, c'mon..  don't come at me man unless you gone come real.  i'ma always have something to say.
