2001 SS. 3.8 At low RPM when taking off I have a hesitation and acts like it wants to die. If you slightly pump the gas pedal a few times to get the RPM's up it takes off and does OK. Sometimes when driving through town(around 20mph) it will act like it wants to die but doesn't. Again if you work the gas pedal it will take off. I have a few ideas like the throttle position sensor or maybe the crank or cam position sensor, but am leaning towards the throttle. Any ideas?

First thing
When was the last time you changed your fuel filter?
When was the last time you tuned the car up?
This includes plugs, wires and an air filter
Also is the check engine light on?
I would start with the fuel filter first

That Cat usually has a warrantee of 100,000 miles I believe. I want to know how the thing collapsed....

I have a similar problem on an 02 with the same engine and have yet to figure it out.

I had the same problem in my 01 ss. It was the cat., then to find out I get a letter in the mail saying that there is a recall on this car if it has a loss of power because of the cat... Might want to check into it.

I think that summed it up. Since it isn't under warrantee, I would replace the plugs and fuel filter. Check the air cleaner to make sure that is good. Then bring it in if it isn't throwing codes.

Emissions components are under warranty for 8 years/ 80, 000 miles but some GMs had issues with the cat so they started a special policy and extended it to 10 years/ 120, 000 miles. For the 2001 Monte Carlos, it only includes cars 19100001-19378233 and for 2002 Monte Carlos, it includes 29100016-29374832. Those numbers represent the last 8 digits of the vehicle's VIN.

Thanks for the info IROC. But I'm already at 150k. Guess I'll have to choke on this one.
