Just saw ur post Cort! If ur going to be in Dubuque, count me in!
Too bad you don't have a Gen 6 supercharged ( I soo want to race a S/C Monte, instead of the Pontiac G/Px I have)
Course... we'd have to find a drag strip (wink wink, lol) -as if in Iowa/Illinois there's not one on nearly every back road long enuf.
Let me know! I'm only about half an hour from Dubuque, and would be happy to meet another Monte enthusiast!

Not sure yet if the mini-trip will be done or not. If so, hope to meet you!
As for those "long enough" backroads ... they certainly are starting to diminish around here, anyway ... it's sad, really :(.
Anyway ... weekend report:
The weekend of November 10-11 is open for pool, a drive, or a visit to the MIRP.
The weekend of November 16-18 is VMR's annual open house.
The following November weekend (23-25) is OUT for me ... because I'll be on my road trip (more on THAT coming in a separate post in a day or two).
December 1 (the day I return from my road trip) is our family's Annual Christmas Open House ... if you are interested in joining us, let me know ... I'll send you more details and directions....
And, December 16 is open....

I'm 25 miles south east from Dubuque. Was just there for supper tonite actually.
Luckily we've still got many decent enough back roads, no hugely big cities that are "surburbing the earth" lol.
I hate it driving on the backroads around certain parts, there's a small town every 10 miles with some old homes that look in the right place, then you have these extravagant homes that stick out like sore thumbs.
Luckily there's not a lot of that around here, but I've seen plenty of it and it's not exactly a weekend trip to find it either.
But yes, definitely let me know if you're hitting up Dubuque, if I'm free I'll be there.

It's the extravagant homes I can't stand, at times. In some places, as you noted, they just don't make sense.

I love small towns ... wish I was living in one, but I'm not. Maybe someday.

I AM going to Charlotte NC....in late November. I'm actually posting about that trip tonight ;).
So ... I'm confused ... are you in NC or IA/IL?
And ... even though the path for my late November trip is not this way, I could EASILY wander around Iowa and Illinois...and end up in North Carolina ;).

If I have a choice around 11 pm. :) I try to get through Chicago around noonish though mostly. I hate my trip back up as I get there around 5 - 5:30 in the afternoon. Traffic Sucks.
What day will I be coming through though is anyones guess. I do it on the fly when I get an interview in Indianapolis.

04 ... yeah, I try to avoid Chicago ... at all costs, if possible. You ever try going down I-39 and across on I-74? Mileage wise would be longer, yes, but time wise ... I'd bet not, depending on traffic through Chicagoland....
Flyn ... sorry I confused you. The trip plans for late November (road trip south) does not include a stop in Iowa. I was in Iowa last year on my road trip. I HAD planned to go to Iowa for a quick weekend getaway, but thus far, that has not happened.....maybe sometime in December or January ... we'll see. Again, my apologies for the confusion.

Cowboy ... my sentiments exactly ... well, most of the time. Doesn't help that I HAVE to go into Chicago at least twice a year for my heart checkups :(.
Flyn ... sounds like a plan to me! Course, with my luck, we'll be buried ALL January in 10 feet of snow.
