Space,
I brought up the same query in another post. Agreed, the 3.9, 240hp engine would be a great engine for the base Camaro with a stick shift. I'm still tying to look it up though. There are several websites that keep their eyes on the most current news.
http://www.welovechevys.com/news/news_08-10-2006.html This one has some good copy from 8-10-06, but no mention of engine size.
One thing is for sure, they are putting the VVT into the 3.5 for '07. I don't think it was availble in the '06 3.5, only the 3.9 LTZ package. With VVT, there is probably no need for 2 engines close to the same size.

My contact at the dealership just called and advised me that the 3.9L is being used in the LTZ Impala & is rated at 233 HP and Active Fuel Management is added that changes between six & three cylinders. EPA rated at 20 City, 29 Hwy. Both the 3.5 & 3.9L have VVT. They didn't know why they took the 3.9L option away from the Monte ? Maybe, later.
Thanks Dave for the Chevy Site & input! `Space

no problemo! It is great site, but one would think that their store would be up and running by now.

Just all the more reason to get the SS!!
Has anyone else seen a huge drop in gas prices?? It went from $3.02 to 2.08 where I live.

From what I was told by a contact deep inside GM is the 3.9 is going to be used mostly in their smaller vans. The G6 is still available in '07 with the 3.9 however, the bigger motor and standard in G6 GTP's is now the 3.6 DOHC VVT V-6 from Cadillac. It's rated at 255 hp.
Just an FYI that for '07 on Monte Carlo (exc. SS) you no longer can get fog lamps, dual exhaust, or the 3.9. It's rather sad but I'm glad I got an '06 LTZ before they became extinct. Gotta love GM sometimes.

James, How deep inside of GM is your contact ? Sounds like a corvert mission
Maybe the forum Chiefs can appoint you their special agent for GM infor...WoW...The first to know...I'm just happy that GM did not stop production of the 3.9L, but don't understand their logic ? ie: No Fog lights, Dual Exh, or the 3.9 in the 07 Monte ?????
GM also cut things like Body Side molding to save $$$ & my dealership wants $380 installed, plus I checked the price of GM Chrome exhaust tips for LT & LTZ and their retail cost was $75 a tip or $110 each installed. Maybe they are on drugs or something?
My first Mod to my 06 LT will be tint.
James, you & Dave have instant classic's and will be rare optioned`Monte's. James, give us an update review on your `Monte to date.Safe/Happy miles to you. `Space

Just an FYI to check for "accessories" thru gmpartsdirect.com. They are generally cheaper than thru a GM dealer. But I haven't decided if I like those chrome tips or not. I've gotten my windows tinted and love it. The new cars are loads better than the older ones. I used to have a 2000 monte carlo. The '06 is smoother, quieter and much more refined in it's power delivery.

I like your assessment, but I could also understand why some of the posters here miss the signature headlights that are missing on the '06. When I see '06 or '07 Montes in my rear view, I can't help but think of some slightly older Japanese looking car. Jut my .02

They have lost the distinguished look. Has anyone been to a rental car lot lately? They all kinda look the same now days...

At first I gotta say I didn't like them. Now that I have one it seems much more up to date. Seems almost foreign or something.

Hey "2006" are your tips SS tips or the actual tips for an LT3 or LTZ monte carlo?
SolaraSlayer now has a rare Monte (No more LTZ's & no 3.9L V-6).
I read in one report that Chevrolet is considering using the 3.9 engine for the 6cyl in the new Camaro. Please post if you have any infor....Thanks`Space
Interesting information. I just bought an '06 LTZ on last wednesday afternoon. My local Chevy dealer found the car for me. They bought a 3LT, and LTZ for me to look over.
I had been talking with the saleslady there about buying an '06 Monte (I already owned an '86LS and wanted an '06. 2006 - 1986). We had test driven a 3LT and SS but the payments were extremely high for me. So this lady offered to keep looking for a 2006 Monte for me.
Last weekend on saturday we headed over to the dealer to look the cars over and test drive both of them. We kept the 3LT from saturday - monday. On monday we went back and they suggested I take the LTZ for a day.
I got everything with it except the V8 and Nascar inspired gauge package the SS has. My girlfriend loves the heated leather seats.
