As the subject says, will be here in a few days, I already have the old airbox out and have the trans computer/ecm cables removed.  All is ready to go!  If anything the sound will be great, not sure I am going to gain 13HP as K+N claims...  We will see!

I went to k&n's website and could not find an intake for the 06 SS. Where did you find it? Was it on a different site?

You wont find it listed for an 06.  It is listed for an 07 however and everything is identical between both years.  Same with the Impala 5.3L, Its all the same.  I am picking it up tonight and will have it installed tonight!

Well I put it in last night and the fit was really good.  Took me about an hour start to finish.  Here is a few pics I took!  It sounds amazing!!!!!  Gave my exhaust note a much deeper tone as well!

I didn't take it out for a long trip, but it defititely pulls harder and the throttle response is much quicker!

At least they wouldn't pass a California Smog Emissions Inspection.

06BlackSS:  Did your stock airbox have an electronic unit with a metal finned top?  When I put in my drop-in, I noticed there was a couple things in there that didn't appear to be intake-related.  Of course my 3.9 will be setup somewhat differently, but I was just curious.  Like they didn't already have enough electronic boxes in various places.... lol

Your pics make me want to buy one just to see if I can adapt it to my intake.  They really do look very similar as far as position goes.  The only difference is a sensor or two might be placed differently (as in horizontal vs vertical).  hmm....  Now if I only had the dough and a spare weekend...  (i'm booked for the next 3 lol!)

Typical California with their strict air quality standards.

In no way will a properly contructed and installed aftermarket part void your warranty.  The Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act prevents this.  In a nutshell, it is the dealership's responsibility to prove that the aftermarket part directly caused the failure.

osito:  I'm afraid the only thing I see on the K&N website for the 2007 Impala with the 3.9 litre is the regular drop-in air filter.  This is a stock replacement that will help performance and mileage, but not as much as a full intake that replaces the stock airbox.  33-2334 is the exact same item I put in my 2006 3LT with the 3.9L engine.  I saw an increase from 26 to 30 MPG highway, and while the performance difference isn't hugely noticable, there is a bit more there.  Your car might take a few miles to get used to the increased flow, but it should adjust within a week, you'll see the best MPG difference about a week later.  City driving doesn't get much of a boost from the filter, the main thing in city driving is to keep the engine from switching to the top end cam (3500 rpm or higher), which takes a lot of extra fuel, but it's where most of the power is.  Unless you don't care about MPG and prefer to let the 3.9 strut its stuff.... like me :-D

If you're considering the K&N drop-in replacement don't even hesitate, it's the best out there right now.  I picked mine up for like 45$ at a local Advanced Auto.
I haven't found anyone that makes an intake performance kit for these engines yet.  But search around, some Pontiac's and Buick's also had the 3.9L engine,  who knows, maybe there's a intake kit made for another car, that will work on ours.

I've had a 2000 SS / 2004 SS S/C & now a 2007 SS and have used the "Drop-in" K&N filter in all of them. I changed to the K&N almost as soon as I got each car, so I really can't comment on what the performance difference is between the two, but I can say, I have been very happy with the fuel mileage on all the vehicles.

The big thing is that you don't need to change the thing. So you won't get grabbed for $15/$20 for a standard filter every time you get it serviced. The K&N is supposed to be good for 100,000 miles I think, and for about $10 bucks you can buy the stuff from K&N and clean it yourself.

A good investment in my opinion.

I just installed my CAI K&N kit for my 03 and I am lovin it!

@Red06SS - your car looks awesome - it is coming along very nice! Love the wheels Sideways from Konig right?

I now am in the process of getting my resonator taken out and replaced with a straight pipe. I am also going to do the U bend delete.

Stock air boxes are typically designed to reduce intake noise.  An aftermarket intake will not do this, so you'll notice a low growl that changes tone with the RPM of the engine when you are accelerating.

Hey guys,
I'm new here, but not new to forums in general (I frequent www.GrandamGT.com often). I jsut got a brand new 2006 Monte Carlo LTZ, dark gray.

My question is similar to others on here about the intake: The engine bays are designed the same way, so is there any reason the V8 intake would not work on the V6 3900 application? It seems to me like one could easily modify the intake to fit in the V6 engine bay, unless the TB diameters are different...

Thoughts?

This is great!  I've been looking for an intake solution for my 06 SS.  I'm gonna order one of those K&Ns as soon as I get my tax refund.

Just came across this fenderwell intake kit.  http://www.intense-racing.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=LS4-INT-FWI-0506W&Category_Code=LS4_Induction_Fuel

This one's also only $100 compared to the $200+ K&N.  Anyone think this or the K&N would be better?

Nice pick up, Jason looks great. But does the 5.3 set up fit on the 3.9??
