Painted Engine Cover

Well guys, my dad and I bought some paint this weekend and fixed up my engine cover. First, we sanded it down to roughen the surface a little so the paint could bond to the plastic better. Then we painted all letters silver. Next, we rubbed vasoline on the numbers to protect them, and painted the rest of the cover blue, and when that all dried we used finger nail polish to paint the "SERIES II" red. What do you guys think? The only thing I noticed is how when the paint dried to the cover ti looked like Ford blue. Pretty....

I think it looks trick. Very nice!
I pulled mine off because it keeps too much heat in the supercharger and I need to cool it off.

I see your dad is from the old school. Last time I said something about using vasoline on parts that you dont
want to be painted, people thought that I was crazy. HATS OFF TO YOUR DAD...... OLD SCHOOL

So the Vasoline trick, you just rub it on the spots you don't want to have painted and it's all good from there?

we used a brush, dipped it in the vasoline, and carefully applied it, making sure to cover all spots by going back and forth a few times over each spot. its still easier than trying to tape it off. then you paint over it and when it dries, you wipe the vasoline off. now ours did take a little bit of the silver paint off, but we just sprayed a little silver paint on a small brush and touched it up.
I was debating whether or not I should paint mine. But after seeing how well Duane's and Wayne's turn out, I think I'm going to go do it. Maybe before the winter sets in. If not, in the spring.
Since the silver lettering was damaged (before I bought the car) by a power washer, I was thinking of painting it body color (victory red), and re-painting the letters and numbers silver. That presents me with a problem though. The raised stripes going left to right are already painted red. When I paint the rest red, should I paint the stripes silver to match the lettering, or paint them gloss black to match the black color of the car's ground effects? I'm open to suggestions, so if you have any, let's hear them.

Personally, I don't like the stripes on the shroud, and would like to eliminate them and smooth out the thing.
I definately think that the shroud looks best in the color of the car, whether black, blue, red, or maroon. Paint it red, and if you keep the stripes, paint them black, with a silver stripe on the leading edge and keep the lettering silver. Looks better than red letters.
I think my shroud is going away to make room for a short stack intercooler.

looks real good !!!!
Niow do your self a favor if you havent done this already get some high temp clear and shoot it with that also to keep it from turnign diffrent colors due to teh chemicals under the hood.
Also have to ask where did you run your amp kit threw the fire wall?
I ended up runnign mine threw the door jam on the pass side and really need to get it out of there and have planed to do so but was tryign to not have to drill the fire wall to do it.
