I'm new to the muscle car scene and need some advice. I like the look of the earlier Monte Carlo's but I can't find one with a manual transmission. Do any of the years have a manual version? If not, is it a big deal to swap in a four speed manual tranny? Is there any year that is better then the rest as far as aftermarket parts?

Welcome to MCF.....

There are, one comes to mind that we just looked up info on for someone recently that was a 78 with a four speed manual.

Except for a few rare models most of them were auto. You could always mod...

What year are your looking for?

I like any model in between 70 and 77, but the earlier the better. Price is also a big factor. I would like to find one in good condition for under 4 grand.

Not too many monte came with a four speed, regardless of year but not to say they cannot be converted. I have a 70 myself that has an M21 four speed. The four speed set up came originally from a 71 I had back in high school, ( I think the 71 year had the most four speeds) I know Original Parts Group has all the linkage needed for the conversion.
