WHat would be the best type of Oil and Filter combo for a 04 MC LS 3.4L V6? Is syntheic any improvement?

I own a 2003 SS 3.8L that I have used only Mobile 1 with a fram filter. Some say it's a waste of $$$$ but I am and have been pretty happy with my combo.
I also change my oil @ 5K miles, sooner only if the oil wear sensor goes off. (Which it has not so far)
