I'm new to the forum. Just traded in my 2000 Mustang GT for a 2001 SS. The stang was nice in regards to power but the SS has it beat in looks and ride. The SS is so much roomier and gets great gas mileage also. I am a happy camper along with my wife and kid. The stang had a catless h-pipe with a borla catback and the inside resonance was deafening. Has anyone done mods to their M/C? Any benefit with a K&N filter or aftermarket exhaust?

Thanks for any responses,

Tom

Welcome to the club!

I just got my MC a few months ago and I did a dual exhaust setup to it a couple days after I got it, you can see the video clip of it in my sig, click the link.

The mods you do on the MC aren't gonna net the gains you would see on the GT, but any and all help. I'm not gonna lie and sit here and say that I feel a difference w/the exhaust setup, but it sure sounds the part.

how much did the exhaust run you, if you don't mind me asking?

$77 each muffler, $50 for the tips, $50 for installation.

Welcome to the forum....

I think that was a good choice over that rustang... lol..

Actually, the factory mufflers are no more restrictive than Flowmaster 40's... However, there are gains to be had by removing the U bend=8HP, swapping out the resonator with a glass pack or high flow race muffler and headers. Next thing I would take care of is the intake system. The factory airbox is a dog, I went the cheap route waiting for my warranty to run out and chapped up the inside of my airbox and replaced the factory filter with a K&N. I noticed a pretty nice gain in power and sound. Want to do it right, get a fenderwell CAI.

thanks for the welcome.

I was thinking about doing the intake and exhaust. I can see where the u-bend would be a good start. Can you give me a rough estimate on how much it would cost to modify that area? Also, will messing with the resonator trip the CEL?

The Ubend delete should not cost more than $100. ZZP and I think PFYC has a replacement part but it's close to or a little over $100 alone. Have your local muffler guy look at it and make one for you.

What's a "CEL"? There are quite a few people out there that remove the resonator all together, but you will end up with alot of drone. I've heard the glass pack will give it more of a deeper sound than drone. There are no sensors attached to the resonator and should not trip any computer related sensors.

LMAO

Well, I may just do the U bend delete afterall, a buddy of mine has put me on to some moderately priced headers and is claiming that they may be the best bolt on you could do to the monte given the restrictive nature of the exhaust manifolds it comes with. He's saying an approximate 20 hp gain by bolting on some headers, plus another 8 from the u bend delete, plus another 5-10 with an intake, plus a performance chip. I can't wait to get it all done.
