Hey All!
I first wanted to apologize that it's been so long since I've been around. The trip didn't go so well, as my car was hit, TWICE, while in Indianapolis. So I've been crazy busy running around trying to get estimates and stuff, and I'm still waiting for the rest of my deductable back. Apparently my insurance has to fight the other insurance ppl for it.
Ok, The trip there was pretty uneventful, except I make a WHOPPING 31 MPG (average) on the way there! 380 some miles (give or take 15) and one tank of gas. Granted I did keep the cruise way below the limit at 60 mph. I did this mainly for fuel mileage, and most of Iowa the roads were still really icy from a prior storm. Illinois was mostly dry, however.
The way back? There was a really bad storm, and most of the way from Indy to like 1/3rd of the way through the state was slow, n go traffic rarely exceeding 50 mph. Once it stopped I ran 65 mph, and got about 28 average. Problem is I forget to reset after the storm, so it's hard to tell if the speed change cost me that much, or if it was just the stop and go while in the storm.
Ok, the accident(s!) Once I got there I was tooling around helping my friend (doesn't drive) with some errands, including haulin her bike to and from a repair shop. (Thank goodness for large Monte Carlo trunks)
Well she went in to pay for the repairs, and I was finishing some lunch. Well I went to go in, opened the door, and as I was grabbing for my bag of lunch some girl pulled in the spot next to me, taking my door with her.
The door was/is ruined, it was pulled at least 45 deg past it's normal open point,, and it severly crunched the non-hinge side. Wouldn't close at all, it was pulled that much. Also the front fender was pulled out of alignment, and scratched. The police refused to come out to file a report, because we both had our information. Insurance companies didn't like this but what could I do? A DNR type officer even drove by, and wouldn't file a report at all!
So I had to drive the car to a place that could at least get my door closed, so I could drive home. Luckily enough Passwater Auto pulled it and wrenched it to where it could function normally (at least lock, and open, and close) even if it doesn't seal properly. 1.5 hours labor (paid in cash) and I was on my way. Not happily now, but at least the car door was operable.
So I went back to her place, and started yelling at the insurance companies, making it clear I wanted this handled smoothly. Well my friend came a running out of her room, and was going to walk to school in order to teach some lessons. In front of the school, someone assumes I'm going to blow the stop (only thing I can think, really) and rear ends me. After writing down all of his info, and checking out the cars I didn't see any damage luckily, but I still got his info if something comes up. He had some little honda/scion looking thing with rubber baby buggy bumpers all the way around, so lucky for my Monte, no damage.
After this I wasn't to enthusiastic about driving in Indianapolis anymore.
I lied low, licking my wounds, and just hanging with my friend (mainly why I went)
Then Friday I had to drive back, so I went and met Cain45, James (great guy BTW) and picked up the rims. They're looking awesome, but I haven't had the chance to put them on the car. I'm going to wait until the door gets fixed, and I can afford some good meats to wrap em in. I'm thinking some michelin all seasons, or sommat of the sort.
Progressive took some pics of the damage, but I haven't gotten any myself. Too depressing!
The estimate of the damage is about 2 grand, with a used door, and new GM hinges,

If the glass wasn't broken ... get the glass and the electrics out of the old door.
Always nice to have a spare switch, motor or a piece of glass when you need them!
At least the switches and window motor.

I wouldnt take the stuff out. The insurance company isnt gonna pay for new switches and glass. The body shop will get a new empty door and have to use all the guts of the old door that werent damaged.

body shops around here anyway do a very good job of blending paint... usually only the owner of the car will ever notice, it's not like the olden days where a couple years later you had a new looking door and an older looking car where they faded differently... they actually do a good job now.
but regardless of that, ti sucks that it happened. i remember how excited i was about getting 33 mpg going to Murfreesboro, NC to visit a college, so I know you're excited about that mileage.
i hope you get it worked out.... from what i hear of progressive, you may be working on it awhile though ;(

Hi `Mike,
I've missed seeing you and your words posted on the MCF.
Sorry to read about your accidents, but happy to read
that you were not injured physically, but I'm sure you were
mentally : (
It was great to read that you got some great MPG from your
Awesome 3.9L LT3 : )
Sure hope that you get a super body man to bring your
baby back like new.
I look forward to seeing you Monte with the rim's
you got from `James - Member Cain45 - (I miss his posts
on the MCF). Did you see his new PickUp ? I was hoping
he would stop in, & post `up some pic's, & give us his review.
I know this is busy season for you, but I will be looking forward
to your future posts & updates. There are `bike's cruz'in all over
Florida...Bike week is over in Florida, but many biker's haven't
left....I've seen some awesome bike's in my part of Florida,
and they are everywhere. Unfortunately 7 bikers
were killed during bikeweek : (

Ouch, I would have flipped if someone tried to go through my door. Glad you didn't get hit though, she couldn't have been that far from your body. Did you happen to get any pictures of what she did to it?
Sorry to hear this.
Any time I hear the words: Progessive Ins
I want to flip out.

WELL at leas tthey will come get a report after the missing persons report come out.
as far as the car gose I m sorry to hear this. Personally i would take it to a dealer ship and trade it on a new one LOL or at least a diffrent one. just let them know it was recently hit and you want to trade it in.
Just tell them the girl in the trunk is a bounus for the deal they are about to cut you on a new car(diffrent car)
but all in all im glad to hear that your back and can at least check in once in a while

the used door they will get for your car will be a complete assembly and should have all the electronics n stuff in it. some even have the door panel and switches. tell them you want the old parts, otherwise they will probably throw it away. we do at the shop i work at. the shop should also be able to get "blend" time for the fender and qtr panel. even progressive will pay blend time. otherwise, when the car is done and nothing but the door was painted,.. raise alot of hell, dont accept the car, gripe about the paint match. leave if you have to and tell them you will be back when the paint matches. that should take care of the blend time.

i just hope you get lucky and get someone that knows how to blend cuz i have a black 98 silverado and i had a cowl hood painted for it last fall. now it is black and is 10 years old so you know the paint is faded... but the guy i had paint the hood did an excellent job of matching the fade that was on the front fenders cuz i couldnt even notice that it was new... now thats besides the point though cuz i was in an accident myself in december and smashed the front of my new hood in... so i know how that feels it just plain sucks. well best of luck to you and your monte

Thanks everyone for your comments! I knew that I would feel better once I got on here!
Well, progressive is giving me some crap about this chick not having valid insurance, so I'm gonna start calling her and her gramas sistas daughter (and everyone in between) until I get my money.
Also going to call out my agent for lieing, she said she had confirmed the girl had valid insurance.
Also going to call Indianapolis police and file charges, if she truly doesn't have insurance.
I'll get it taken care of... she gave me her cellphone number, so either I get my 500$, or get 500$ worth of enjoyment horassing her at all hours :D
And her gramas... well, you get it... lol
Well, progressive is giving me some crap about this chick not having valid insurance,
I apologize to anyone who has auto ins with them..........
Cause to me they = crook!!!
Just some advice here.
You could very likely get in serious trouble harrassing this girl.
Call a lawyer's office. Just ask for advice on what to do? You don't have to hire them or anything. But find out what kind of recourse you have.

I dont think we have ever gotten a door with all the parts in it and ready to go before. Usually on a newer car it will get a new door and we have to use the parts from the old door. We dont normally get used doors for newer cars, it is usually just by request from the customer or if the customer's car isnt worth getting a new door for. When we do get a used door, usually they have been sitting outside for a while and everything is sieze up and the wires are cut, or they are already gutted from the junkyard taking it off, gutting it and putting it in stock. Never that I can remember have I been able to just bolt the door up, plug in the wiring and be done.

Well, I just called her insurance company, and they gave me a claim number, and basically said that yes, she does have insurance, and she has filed a claim. Now I just have to give the info to progressive, and keep on their rears about getting it finished.
Only thing I'm worrying about is they said if they incurr legal fees, that it's taken from my deductable.... I don't think so!
oh we'll get it taken care of, and I will be taking this claim into account in my future auto insurance purchases...

Hi Mike,
I was glad to read that the `girl had insurance.
I hope that you have found a good auto shop
for your repairs. I've read that silver is difficult
to match `if they don't have the proper
painting equipment. Keep us updated
on your progress. Oh `Pic's.
Look'in forward to see'in your Super LT3
with the rim's you purchased from `James -Cain45-
Good Luck 2 you & your Monte.
`Space
Well hopefully everything works out like YOU want. And don't take anything less that what YOU'RE satisfied with. They owe YOU. Not the other way around.
Remember..... whiplash (hint, hint) can show up days later. And a neck/back injury is the last thing they want to deal with.

not to mention ment angish for the fact tha tyou have had sooooo much stress in your life since this. and that you car was put in to the body shop and dealing with them.
Also if you do get a used door with all the parts or if any of you do i need the miorro switch. they broke mine when climbing in the door. SO once again i need to get another one.
What is the deal here with the switches on doors getting screwed up all the time.
But again i would make sure that you talk to a lawer and i would have hierd one imedetly. If for no other reason to make sure tha tyou dont get bent over on thier "LEGAL" fees.
yeha that is thier deal with her ins. company not yours.

i guess things are done differently from shop to shop, state to state. sure, we put lots of new doors on and swap out all the parts but the majority of our junkyard stuff is complete less a few things every now and then. most of the time we have an extra door panel, switches, door glass, etc,... left over from the original door. all that stuff is thrown away on a daily basis or a decision is made by the tech on which pieces are the better of the two for installation. most of ours do have the harness cut but replacing the door harness isn't very difficult and it sure beats building the whole junkyard door. lol

Oh, I know to ask for all my original stuff back, that won't be a problem. I just want to get it fixed asap. Sick of looking at the damage. Not to mention I made the mistake of going through an autowash and got SOAKED. I was even pullin the door shut to try and make it seal better. Oh well, at least I thought to bring a towel to block/absorb most of it.
Oh I got under Progressive's nerves Thursday. At least my adjuster's nerves, lol. After beating around the bush she finally said ok thanks for the info and I'll send that to the subrogation dept. or whatever they call it.
Now, to see about my next 6 mos. of insuranec (just came due this month)

Ok all, Progressive basically gave up:
PROGRESSIVE SUCKS ARSE>...... DON"T BUY PROGRESSIVE AUTO INSURANCE
IF YOU HAVE IT.... GET RID OF IT (I am!)
Oh, and if anyone knows where I could find a good used 2006/2007 Silver door (silverstone metallic) I'd much appreciate the info.

they are not going to fix your car?
did they total it out ?
man get a good lawer on this as far as i know they have to pay for the car or total it out and pay for it this way. either way they have to pay.
now dont besuprised if they dont canel ya out to lol

Well, they paid me damages minus my deductable. Supposedly they're "working with the other company" granted I don't know if I should trust them but that company hasn't even heard from mine as of last week. The guy that took my statement said that progressive said liability is not determinable, and that I'm not getting my deductable back.
My point is how in the hell can I be responsible for 25% of the cost, when it's CLEARLY the other parties fault.... Dammit, look at the FU****G damage.
