Hi Tyler,
You posted a good question.
I like NASCAR racing, but I like all competitive racing.
If I had to choose between Moto Cross, and NASCAR,
I would pick Moto Cross : )
(Check out their page/vid's : )
We've never had cable, so I missed a lot of racing that's
on ESPN, & Sports Channels, etc. I grew up watching NASCAR with my
grandfather, and I've enjoyed many races, but to me
it has just become a $$$ Big Money Game.$$$
I do admire the talent of the drivers, and the competition,
but it can get repetitive, and boring sometimes.
What's your favorite form of Racing ?
Wanta `Race ?

I am no fan of Nascar, HOWEVER. The engine's are NOT all the same, and they have strict guidelines as to what is allowed. If all of the engines were the same, then when Dale Jr's engines blew, everyone else's should have, right? WRONG. Not to mention I think this post is aimed more towards causing arguments rather then sparking interests towards learning and the overall improvement of the online web-based knowledge database.

I'm a die-hard NASCAR (Earnhardt) fan. Spent many Friday and Saturday nights at the dirt track growing up, then my son was into go-cart racing.
NASCAR is better in person where you can actually "feel" the speed.

yea im not a huge fan of nascar but its a lot better when your there. as dustybird said you can actually "feel" the speed, it makes it a lot more interesting in person, especially when u can hear how loud they are.

Not a fan at all of nascar. Formula 1 racing all the way for me.

I'm not the biggest fan of Nascar, but I'll watch it if I remember to. Probably since I'm driving a Dale Jr. edition and people expect me to know how he did in the last race. I suspect a lot of signature series monte owners get the same thing.
I agree with the others about watching it in person. I think watching car races is a lot like watching other sports like golf or baseball, for example. If you're watching it on tv, it has the potential to get boring. But experiencing all the sounds, feels, and excitment in the air in person, is very different.

Well if you hate NASCAR so much why are you on a Monte Carlo forum? The Monte Carlo was a big part of NASCAR in the Winston Cup years. I'm not too fond of the new rules of NASCAR the last couple of years but I will always be a Dale Earnhardt fan. So do you hate NHRA too? They used the last gen body style in the funny car division.

Okay people, like kweef said, stay nice.
If you have issues with PlasticPower624 let the other mods and I handle it. I've already warned him in another thread.
If you want to continue discussing this topic civilly, fine. If it turns into a flame war, it will go away.

I was not a fan of NASCAR until about 7-8 years ago, probably about the time it started to get a lot of TV coverage. I became hooked on it, especially once I began knowing the various drivers, and the teams they drove for. I guess another big reason was Dale Earnhardt Sr's reputation and what he brought to the sport.
Unfortunately, in the last 7-8 years, the sport has become such big business, and NASCAR has managed to dream up so many rules and regulations, to keep all teams "Competetive", they have reduced the thing to an IROC race, where all the cars are the same. What's up with that???
The name NASCAR means North American Stock Car Association. I sure don't see any "Stock" cars in the races. I don't know why any OEM would spend any money to sponsor this thing. You sure can't say that Chevy/Ford/or Dodge and dare I say Toyota will get any benefit from having a "Cloned" car with individual mfg's decals on them, will get much mileage from the advertising. "The car of Tomorrow"......What a crock!!!

well i guess that means that its the skills of the drivers that determine the race...i dont like that all of the cars are the same but i do think that the skill of your driver should matter the most

You bring up a very good point. I'd like to see a purpose-built "stock car" built by the OEM's, in the races. Like an Impala Nascar that actually looks like it could've been a street Impala. Instead of the generic Nascar shells with headlight and taillight stickers. Case in point is the Fusion Nascar. It in no way resembles a real Ford Fusion. And a real Ford Fusion would make a horrible racecar design. This would force the OEM's to actually think and come up with real designs, instead of just being sponsors.
Edit: I find it ironic that a Fusion Nascar more resembles a Monte Carlo than a real Ford Fusion.

Don't get me wrong, the skill and nerve of the drivers is incredible. I don't know of any other sport, where you basically take you life in your hands in order to participate. I love the speed, and as other posts say, "It's much better being there in person".
Somehow to me, the rivalry between the OEM's was a big part of the show. Just like in the marketplace, you have your Chevy / Ford / Dodge fans. This to me was a major part and now, who cares which brand you root for, they are all the same, and the teams that can pay for the best drivers, and afford the best testing and all the other support items, will always be on top, no matter which OEM supports them.
Don't you think Toyota will come on now being alligned with Gibbs. This won't have anything to do with the Toyota car, just Toyota's money.

ur right...i would like to c the manufactures come back into the race as well

Good idea Taz. In order for a car to qualify for NASCAR, the OEM's had to build a certain number of them for consumer sale. I don't think the consumer versions should have 800hp engines, but at least some body differences.
I remember I heard something that when the 2000 version of the Monte came out, the wind tunnel numbers on it were so good, NASCAR had to impose another one of their rules, to compensate for all the other cars. Don't know if this is totally true, but GM actually designed the Monte for that purpose......the NASCAR circuit. This may be one of the reasons we have no more Montes. Whats the point, NASCAR has decided to use a clone, so why design or build a car for "Stock Car" racing.

Us in the Drag Racing Business have a little joke for every nascar driver.
Us dragracers know exacly where the finish line is and go right for you. You nascar drivers have to make 200+ laps just to find the finish line!

Sorry but I am not into samecar racing. Also know as COT or tuner racing. I feel it is not fair tot the teams to be restricted to 1 car design. As far as I am conserned NASCAR has died.

I'm with you Monteman, Nascar has been reduced to a fan spectacle, where the organizers are hoping the fans don't notice that all the Chev / Ford / Dodge competition has been taken out. Personally, I think the fans will notice, and slowly, the interest levels will diminish. Too bad, this was a truly American institution, a throwback to the musclecar days. I guess NASCAR just wanted to go "Uptown" where the big money is, and get away from the "Good ol' boy image"

I myself am totally pissed with NASCAR. I was a fan for many years, but this whole COT change made me change. I am also not to thrilled about the whole qualification process. If you show up at the track and you have a car that makes it past inspection and you qualify for a position on time you should make the race. Enough of this BS where the top 35 are given a position just because they have money and clout. Let's get back to what made this a once great sport!
I have always been an NHRA fan and go to at least one national event per year. It seems the folks at NHRA have it together and are continuing to improve. I remember one race this year where Ron Capps was #1 in points and he did not qualify for a race. Guess what? He didn't race that weekend and that is the way it should be. NHRA is alot more diversified also. It gives smaller teams an advantage because everyone has the same rules.
My Monte will find it's way on the track one day when I get through building it up and it won't be on the roundy rounds!
