Upper intake manifold went BOOM!
My UIM blew up today, sending shrapnel all over the place. The explosion was pretty loud but nothing, besides the UIM, was damaged. I guess now would be a good time to install the turbo, rebuild the engine/trans, and redo the interior. I'll post pics of the shredded upper intake manifold tomorrow.
I'm hoping to get everything, except e interior, done within a few weeks.

Good thing this happened before the turbo. Not that its ever a good thing for your intake to explode. There was a turbo monte a while back that burnt to the ground because the intake manifold exploded and caught the engine bay on fire.
You should look into upgrading to the aluminum manifold on the L26 Series III 3800 before you install your turbo. Its supposed to be much stronger than the plastic one.

This is what's left of the UIM after the explosion. It looks like fuel got into the vac lines through the FPR and, after a while of charging the batt, the pressure buildup did the rest. I'm still looking for the remainder of the UIM, I think some may have landed on the roof.
I already have an aluminum L26 UIM, painted chevy red/orange, and should have the LIM/exhaust manifolds/heads of the car by tomorrow. The block comes out Thursday and the trans on Saturday.
Greg, how's the new surroundings? I'd have used some help with the serpentine belt, it was a bear to take off, but other than that it's pretty simple stuff. Once my left leg starts to shake I'm done and take a 30 minute break.
