Oh allright, if u guys are gonna insist on having a fricken time sheet.... Ok, some of yall remind me to take Saturday Sept 29th off.   It's the next test/tune (open time trial) day at the local drag strip.

http://www.tristateraceway.com/

After that it's not until like the 21st of October!   Might be cooler dryer air for a better run tho....   Hell could be snow on the ground then.  It is Iowa afterall....

I think I'll buy a fresh stock air filter, and clean my K&N in prep for the day.  The K&N isn't close to needing cleaning, but it prolly won't hurt.  That way I can compare and see what the difference truly is.

Who knows, maybe there'll be a stock S/C 3.8 I can run against     and end this debate!

Anyone got some Mickey Thompson 225/55/17's race tires they'll lend me for an afternoon, I'll be gentle... I swear!

Temp and humidity will also affect this bench race.

I call it a bench race, because all is happening is comparing numbers.

When you hit the street with 2 cars... anything can happen.  It will definately come down to driver.

Stock L67s run mid 14s to mid 15s.  The discrepancy came down to temp/humidity and traction... as simple as that.

The 3900 will not be as affected by hotter temps or high humidity as the L67 would, so a 75F with low humidity would be ideal to see which driver would win the traction contest.  :-)

Best way would be to take the same driver, on the same day, and have them do 5-10 runs with each car, and take the best run of each to compare.

if it's going to be that close, i don't think it matters. it will be more of who cna get into it the fastest without breaking the tires free.  the engines are so close, that one is really just as fast as the other.  plus, there will be another factor:  the wear and tear on the tires and the engine.  what about driver fatigue at time of race?  so many little factors are going into this race that the truth is it don't matter.  pick your engine and run

I've raced a Supercharged Monte Carlo with my LTZ.  It was fairly close but towards the end of 2nd is where I started pulling away, I wasn't pulling away real fast but when I shut it down I was still getting away from him and it was I think 80 at the hottest that night.

Not bad for a race.  Lately around Iowa it's been from the 50's in the early Am to low 70's in the afternoon.  I really think I can feel it in my car, not a huge difference, but the response does seem better.

what is the weight of these 06-07 montes?  i know the 04-05 weight about 3450 lbs.  also, what is the stock tire width on the newer montes?  that could end up being the deciding factor you know....

05 Supercharged SS:     3395 lbs     235/55R17

06 LTZ:     3395 lbs     225/55R17

like i said in the other forum i raced a monte carlo and and impala  3.9. the impala got up wit me from the start and then i passed him up in the second gear. i know for a fact that if the racers are the same then the SC would win. the only monte that it would lose to is the V8 SS and i know that.

seems to be the 3.9 people swear by it, and 3.8 SC people swear by taht engine.  as i've said time and time again, it comes down to driver.  the 3.8 probably has more potentional becasue its been around longer, so theres more aftermarket and you've got the option of swapping pulleys.  just my $.02
