I recently installed a 400sbc/350tranny into my 87 Monte SS. The motor was rebuilt with slight upgrades from stock (cam,pistons..etc.) The tranny is also rebuilt with shift kit. I have 3:73 gears in the rear end. This car will basically be a street performer and won't see any strip action. The detent (kickdown) cable was left off so I have to manually down shift. How much of a difference does it make (performance wise) if I installed a hurst shifter versus using the stock shifter? As I said before, I dont plan on using it on the strip. I'll fine tune the car and probably add a few more goodies that will push the car in the neighborhood of 350-450HP. Ive heard all kinds of stories about the shifters. If the Hurst is the way to go, what style would fit my application? Thanks in advance.

i got a built 400sm th350 trans in my 88 ss with the 3:73 gears pushing around 500 hp and i put in a b&m meagashifter and it works great for me i dont know what style of hurst shifter would work i wanted to keep the stock console so i went with b&m fits in there nice but b&m or hurst would work just fine as for performance i dont find that they do anything its just better because you have to rachet one gear at a time so you dont go to the wrong gear thats all
