Spark plug boot removal.....Desparate ! - 4/24/2007 8:15:38 PM    impalamonte   Posts: 3 Joined: 4/22/2007 Status: offline   Gentlemen ,   I need a pro here !   2002 Monte SS ,  80 K   attempting to change rear 3 spark plugs   Can not separate the boot from the plug on any of them.    My knuckles are hamburger!!   No problem to change if I could get the boot off !!!!!  So frustrating .     Mark Post #: 1

First, buy a $10 set of Craftsman auto gloves from Sears to fix the hamburger hands. You'll want a 15 mm socket to remove the engine mounts.  Then roll the car backward in reverse and you do NOT need to start the engine to do this.  The transmission will roll the engine forward for you and give you an extra few inches.  I actually found it easier to climb right on top of the engine to do the work, but I'm short at 5' 6". DO NOT pull the wires as they might rip out of the boot and you'll be in a world of hurt then.  I used a Channel Lock Pliers to twist the boots off the plugs in the back. Also it will help if you have a 3 and 6 inch extention for your socket wrench and a socket swivel. _____________________________ Life''s a bitch, don''t vote for one. You can get them from most tool places. As far as the mounts go, You want to unbolt the mounts on the engine side I have found not all mounts have the extra hole in them.
