  Gentlemen ,

  I need a pro here !   2002 Monte SS ,  80 K   attempting to change rear 3 spark plugs

Can not separate the boot from the plug on any of them.    My knuckles are hamburger!!

No problem to change if I could get the boot off !!!!!  So frustrating .

  Mark

what you need to do to make it easy to get @ them is to disconect the front motor mounts, then roll the car backwards, put a block infront of the wheel and the motor will tip forward enough for you to work on them :)  makes it very easy :)

step one   have new wires on hand
step two   grab em with pliers and twist only untill the boot is not stuck in place on the plug
step three  pull like crazy with the pliers

  Wizz kid .....

Is a jack under the motor involved in all of this as well ?   What about the connection of the exhaust pipe at the rear of the motor ? Will it crinkle??

no jack needed...i haven't done mine yet...just watched a friend of mine do them on an impala, and he said this was all i needed to do to mine to get @ the back 3 spark plugs...looked really easy, and he didn't hurt the exhaust @ all

Welcome to MCF Mark!!

First, buy a $10 set of Craftsman auto gloves from Sears to fix the hamburger hands.

You'll want a 15 mm socket to remove the engine mounts.  Then roll the car backward in reverse and you do NOT need to start the engine to do this.  The transmission will roll the engine forward for you and give you an extra few inches.  I actually found it easier to climb right on top of the engine to do the work, but I'm short at 5' 6".

DO NOT pull the wires as they might rip out of the boot and you'll be in a world of hurt then.  I used a Channel Lock Pliers to twist the boots off the plugs in the back.

Also it will help if you have a 3 and 6 inch extention for your socket wrench and a socket swivel.

Intimidator ,

I know the front mounts are " jointed" .  Do I disconnect the 15mm bolt from the first joint or the second.  Or could I directly unbolt the whole mount from the core support ?

Thanks

They do make a spark plug wire puller.
You can get them from most tool places.

As far as the mounts go,
You want to unbolt the mounts on the engine side
I have found not all mounts have the extra hole in them. The hole is located on the under side of the mount a few inches back from the mounting hole

thats even better
easy to do
unbolt the two bolts (again engine side of the mount)
Roll the car back and insert the bolt in the uppper hole and then thru the mount.
