my 01 SS threw a code so I had it checked and they said it was code p0102 wich comes up as the mass air flow sensor. Autozone quoted me for $44 bucks. Now my question is does anyone have a picture of one. everything iv found on the new isnt any less than $100 but autozone says its only $44?? My car has been sputering and dying on me when I try to start it and then it will run fine, then sometimes when i give it gass it will stop and boucne off of 3 to 4K RPM. Iv replaced the cat and EGR so i hope its is the last of it and the car will run right again.

heres a pic, it will be on your intake tube between the air filter and the intake, easy to spot under the hood and all u need to replace it is a screwdriver

The symptoms you are describing are definitely caused by a bad maf. That should fix it. The price sounds kinda cheap but hey... it's a "Twilightzone" part!

My car is throwing this code along with p0171 (system too lean). Did you change the MAF and did it solve the problem?
I have a 1999 z23 with the 3800. It is experiencing the same problems. I was thinking about changing the EGR, but when I took it off, it looked clean and the valve moved freely.
When I do get it fixed, I'm going to post what the problem turned out to be. I would rather fix it myself instead of taking it to the dealer and paying too much.

I took the throttle body off tonight. The bolts seemed to be a little loose. There was some anti-freeze on the inside of the intake, most likely from the tb being loose. Maybe the gasket didn''t have enough pressure around it to keep the antifreeze out.
I sprayed the TB and MAF with carb cleaner and put it back on being sure to get it on there pretty tight.
BTW, I think that the TB wasn''t put on tight when I had the intake replaced ealier this year.
Hopefully this should take care of the problem. I''ll post in few days to let you people know if it cleared up.
Who knows, I might have to spend the $130 and replace the maf and housing after all.
Any thoughts on this subject is much appreciated. Thanks!

Alrighty then...
It didn''t work. The problem still exists. I broke down and purchased a remanufactured MAF sensor ($136.99 with a $80 core charge Autozone). Now all I need is a security torx driver. I have no idea why I have to buy a special tool to remove my MAF.
Anyone even reading this? I hope this post helps someone along the way....
More to come.... I''ll let you know how it works.

yes we r reading lol idk y u would need a special tool to remove it...who told u that u needed one?

The MAF for my ''99 Z34 w/the 3800 was well over $100.

I needed to buy a set of security torx wrenches. They cost $10 for a set of them at Autozone. I have torx drivers, but none with the security holes in the middle of the star part.
I''ll post my results after a few days. I''ve taken the car once so far. The check engine light hasn''t came back on yet. Knock on wood.
Again, I''ll keep updating here.

so did u needed the special tool to remove ur maf sensor? all i did was turn the sensor with my hand
