IMHO, it is time for a Chicagoland-area gathering. Based on responses to the poll/questions I asked recently, this is an informal gathering. Attendees are welcome to bring their car to show, show up to visit, or both! We may attend a car cruise Saturday night.
DATE
= Saturday, July 26, 2008
TIME
= Start ... ~noon
= end ... dusk, when Forest Preserve closes [OR] later, if we attend a cruise night
...Shelter is reserved from noon until dusk, but please feel welcome to stop by for even just a short while to visit, if you want.
LOCATION
= west of Elgin IL
= Burnidge-Paul Wolff Forest Preserve at Big Timber and Coombs Rds:
west of Randall Rd, IL RT 31, IL RT 25 ... south of I-90, IL RT 72 ... north of I-88, IL RT 64, IL RT 20 ... east of I-39, IL RT 47
= Burnidge Shelter:

...This has electrical outlets, a built-in grill, a fire pit, access to water, and is handicap accessible.
COST
= food (we have to eat anyway, right?) ... NO alcoholic beverages.
= gas (can't control this one, sorry)
= lodging (if needed)
= ABSOLUTELY, 100% _NO_ REGISTRATION, ENTRY OR PARTICIPANT FEES!!!
ALL ARE WELCOME!!!
This IS a RAIN or SHINE gathering. If it rains, we will have a shelter, or we can go to a nearby restaurant....
Plenty of hotels/camping in the area, if you are joining us from a distance. If many are coming from a distance, I will look into securing group rates for hotels and/or camping areas....

THIS meeting looks promising! my only plans for July this summer are spending the 4th in Okoboji and working the rest to pay for Okoboji... I will have to schedule in a weekend off to get out that way!

That sounds good. I think my Fiance and I can make it. I don't know the car show schedual yet but shows are usually on Sundays. But if it's bad weather my Fiance and I will probably not attend.

Elgin is about an hour (depending on traffic) NW of Chicago, along I-90 and IL RT 20 (with other routes noted in the original post).

Man, I'd love to but it depends on how soon I complete the police academy and if my wife, son, and I can swing it!  I don't see us making this one though. Thanks for the invite!

This gathering is in 4 MONTHS, but it's NEVER too early to plan to JOIN us or put this on your CALENDAR! Let me know even if you're just THINKING about coming....

As of now, about 40 people plan to attend.... How about YOU? Will you JOIN us?
If I need to find and reserve a bigger space/forest preserve shelter (due to more coming), I am happy to do that.... So, please advise even if you are just THINKING about joining us....
To those coming:
Are you interested in going to a cruise night somewhere in the area that evening? If so, does distance from the afternoon location matter?
And, anyone plan to stay overnight, either Friday or Saturday?
