My 01 Monte Carlo SS''s resonator has rusted through. Do I need to replace the resonator or can i put a piece of straight pipe in? I found a replacement unit on eBay. Will this work?

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Grand-Prix-Direct-Fit-Resonator-Monte-Carlo-Regal_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQ_trksidZp1638Q2em118Q2el1247QQcategoryZ33633QQihZ009QQitemZ190176124727QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWD1V

Will deleting the resonator have any negative effects on the car besides noise? If i bought the resonator on eBay a muffler shop should be able to install that right?

Thanks

no negative effects at all... i don''t even consider the noise level that is going to changea  downside in all honesty.

I pulled mine and the exhaust actually sounds better with no real noise increase inside the car.

Yes. Your best bet is to cut an inch or so behind it then unbolt it from the down pipe. Then cut an inch or so infront and weld a pipe alittle longer than the resonator onto it. You can then bolt it back up and weld the other end to the back. Since I couldn''t find anyone with any stainless pipe in my area I also painted the pipe with header paint to hopefully make it last longer.

I was actually about to ask about removing a resonator. I want my monte to sound louder but not SO loud that its annoying when crusing on the interstate. I also don''t wanna spend much money. I''m thinking resonator delete would be the best thing to start out with?

cutting the resonator is a good way to start.  everyone has a different opinion on what''s annoying going down the interstate.  my cat and glasspack for an exhaust is loud to alot of people i''m sure... i can hear my car idling 50-75 ft away easy.  it''s not annoying to me going the interstate.  i can see where you wuld think it is though.

now, to give you an idea of my enviornment growing up.... i''ve rode with my dad in an 18 wheeler every summer since i was 12... i know the smell of diesel and and a trucks exhuast note like a mother knows it''s baby.

I had mine cut off.  Actually, the guy at the muffler shop told me he cut it off and put a straight pipe on for me.  The installation of both 40 series flows and that was only $80.
