Maybe the Mayan making the calendar said something like, "That ought to be enough for now.  I''m tired.  Let somebody else continue this dam thing when the time comes."

I would not base my whole end of the world theroy on some calender, trust me the world will not end so simply trust me.   There will be a WW3 before the world ends, not knowing when or how soon but it''s coming.  Lots of people will die and civilzation will some how find a way to start over. Trust, it only took a matter of 3 to 5 years for the world, of jus the US in the place it is now.... The world we live in a now you can''t never look to the next day as a better a day, because you''ll hear something that''s worse.  Live with what you can now.. Don''t worry about the future.... Nothing w can do but light up a dooby and go on.

I would make a guess and say none of us will still be around on the day that the world actually ends. Thats why its kinda "fun" to think about it. It would be a real shame if we did have to live through the end of the world. Im hoping it ends abruptly like with a meteor impact or something but most likely it will be us who kill the world. Overpopulation, lack of natural resources and a diseased climate will most likely be our demise. But still it wont be as bad for us since we probably wont be around.

LOL!

With Space''s luck, he''ll sign the loan papers on Dec 11, 2012 on his 18,000 foot 8 bedroom, 4 bath, 3 story house and the world will end the next day.

I can tell you for certain when our world will end... in 5 billion years or so when the sun turns into a red giant and engulfs the Earth. That is if Andromeda Galaxy doesn''t destroy it first when our galaxies collide in 2.5 billion years.

As for life on Earth, who knows for certain when that will end before those two events. Some one could "press the button" tomorrow and several billion people will die instantly and the rest later on when they die of radiation poisoning, illnesses or starve. Or a decade from now an asteroid could plow into the Earth, or next year the Yellowstone Super Volcano could erupt, etc, etc, etc...
