Too tired to drive from staying up late going-over the good old days, at a Wake, with all the friends of a dearly departed, I gave the keys to "The Old Lady" and rode shotgun all the way home to Billerica, MA ... from Saratoga Springs, NY. It didn''t take her long to get into The Full Monte Zooming mode. Got the seat just right, mirrors tilted for full views, steering wheel angled for the long-haul, type-searched Country on the radio and away we go. She got us home in time for dinner and actually made a Pit Stop ... pulling-up to the Pump and getting enough to get home and outta-there, back-in traffic again within two minutes. She struggled with the Gas Cap while I ran inside and took a leak. Her concentration was incredible. She even let the Cruise Control manage speed for awhile while we were on the wide-open road. She pulled it out of overdrive for the long uphill stretch across the Berkshires and was Queen of the High-Speed Lane for most of the day. My favorite move of hers of the day was pulling-over to the right to let a fast-mover gaining on her go by. But the guy went to Cruise and was doing door-handle to door-handle instead of going by. With us rapidly gaining on a slow moving big-rig up-ahead ... she grabs the T-handle and jerks it back out of Drive and stands on it, leaving the road-hog trailing the Monte for pretty much the rest of the trip. I napped for a bit and woke to find her holding the wheel at four and seven O''clock ... pushing 80 and holding a rock-steady line with the Escort Solo stuck to the windshield and my wife Marguerite doing a pretty fair piece of making-time in the Monte. It''s bare-bones stock ... but fun as heck!
