ORIGINAL: Cowboy6622 of those, the Challenger. my dream car is still a 1968 Ford Mustang GT390 Special Post for CowBoy `Duane Check out the base price of the Mustang GT in 1968 WoW Road Test: Dodge Charger R/T Meets Mustang GT 6. They were only supposed to go 35 mph Worried residents on Taylor Street called the SFPD and City Hall during filming of the iconic jump sequence. The San Francisco authorities were led to believe the cars wouldn''''t be exceeding 35 mph. Director Peter Yates used different camera angles pointing up and down the hill to capture the action and edited the film to extend the chase. That''''s why both cars appear to pass the same green VW Beetle several times during the scene. 7. The Charger never hit the gas station For the climactic final scene, coordinators hitched the Charger alongside the Mustang, with stunt-driver Carey Loftin pulling a cable release to set it plowing into the dummy gas station constructed for the scene. But the Charger missed the gas pumps. Fortunately, the special-effects team blew explosive charges anyway. Careful editing by Frank Keller, who won an Oscar for his efforts, means you see the Charger miss only if you look closely.
8. The U.N.C.L.E. connection Lalo Schifrin wrote the incidental music for the chase, a track called "Shifting Gears." It''''s replaced with the sound of the Charger and Mustang, er, shifting gears the moment bad-guy Phil guns his car around an illegal left turn. Schifrin also wrote incidental music for the 1960s TV spy show, "The Man from U.N.C.L.E.," which starred Robert Vaughn (who plays the ambitious politician Walter Chalmers in "Bullitt") and on which "Bullitt" stunt coordinator Bill Hickman was a stunt driver. 1968 Dodge Charger R/T Base price $3480 Engine 440 cu in/375 hp/480 lb-ft OHV 16-valve V-8 Transmission 3-speed auto Curb weight 3970 lb Wheelbase 117.0 in Length x Width x Height 208 x 76.6 x 53.2 in 0-60 mph 6.5 sec (MT Dec 1967) 1/4 mile 14.9 sec @ 95.0 mph

hehe.... ''Space, did you ever see Bullitt? I haven''t... I''ve watched the infamous chase scene on youtube though. I''ve heard it really wasn''t a good movie... it just had a good car chase. I do know the name Carey Loftin.. he was the stunt driver for Vanishing Point which used parts of hte cars sound track. He did some great car stunts for both movies :) BTW, Steve McQueen ahd the worst hair ever.

The color on the Bullitt Mustang... it''s alright, but I never fell in love with the Highland Green. I''''d love to have a 1968 Mustang looking exactly like this.... Acapulco Blue by you :)
